Yes really. I was taking Aeronautical Engineering in school, nearly finished. Because of 9/11, I wasn't able to get a decent job in my true passion, so I moved on to Oil & Gas. I'd have to say that changed my life eh?

How can you be so sure it hasn't affected you in an indirect way?

You must live on one of those religious colonies. I understand the outside world has no meaning to you.

Yeah a day like that is pretty hard to forget. I had gotten up early to go to the U of C that morning to go pay for my tuition. While I was standing in line, a buddy came up to me and told me that a plane had crashed into the WTC. My first reaction was "cool!" It sounded pretty unreal so I didn't really understand the reality of it. Then I found out my classes were cancelled for the day, so I went home early.

On the bus-ride home, I started chatting with this business man. He told me that he got sent home because of the attacks.

The 2nd plane hit a little before I got home, so when I got home, there were a billion replays of the 2nd plane. After that I was glued to the TV for about 10 hours, watching in complete and utter shock, watching the chaos unfold.

It definately did for me, its reminded me how religions could be dangerous and more importantly a threat to future survival.

It was that day I went from a polite non-theist to a anti-theist, since then I've spent a lot of energy reading books, going to conferences and getting active in the reason/logic camp of thinking.

That day changed my life, I wish people truly saw that day for what its precursors were and why we need to fight irrational thinking, unjustified belief and more importantly respect for belief simply on the idea that belief is deserving of respect without scrutiny.
