Although you could fly Halifax-London England in a 737 (the distance is actually almost the same as Halifax-Vancouver), it isn't part of the plan at this point.

Part of the reason WestJet decided not to get a larger, longer range airplane for inter-continental work was too many airlines like Zoom that were selling for unsustainably low fares. Although we could break even or scrape out a very small profit in that market, there is more money to be made with more 737 type destinations. When that market firms up, and there is more opportunity with fewer competitors, don't be surprised if WestJet does purchase something like 787's and moves into the long haul travel biz.

The Zoom affair has potentially messed up the start of the British Elite League Hockey season for several clubs.

Zoom were a League sponsor and provided free flights for players travelling into the UK.

Hardest hit so far have been Basingstoke Bison who have been landed with a £10,000 bill for alternate flights...and because of Zoom pulling iut, 2 of their other sponsors have pulled their funding.

The team owner has had to resort to asking for donations from the fans.

£10,000 might not seem a lot in NHL terms, but bear in mind that our wage cap for the entire season is only around the £250,000 mark.
