Problem is the term ‘better’ is vague, is someone overall a better person because they are taller and slimmer? No that is ridiculous…and I think most people would agree with that.
Are they better looking? Probably for the most part those are the features we look for in the opposite sex. Personality does matter of course, but on a basic biological level people are attracted to people who look healthy.

Believe what you want but i don't look at the opposite sex in terms of them being ugly or fat.
Maybe you could define what an ugly person is supposed to look like.
Then we have immature comments on this thread that say fatties need lovin too.
It makes no difference to me wether a person is fat or not. And it certainly doesn't factor in my descion when i choose to go out with someone from the opposite sex.

Peter: Let me tell you something about myself. I come home from work to my place and all I have is my work. There's nothing else in my life!
Dana: Dr. Venkman…
Peter: I meet you, and I say, my God, there's someone with the same problem I have!
Dana: Yes. We both have the same problem. You!
Peter: I'm gonna go for broke. I am madly in love with you.
Dana: I don't believe this. Will you please leave?
Peter: (to an invisible audience) And then she threw me out of her life. She thought I was a creep, she thought I was a geek and she probably wasn't the first...
Dana: You are so odd... (Peter goes to leave but then quickly turns back around) No.
Peter: I've got it!
Dana: No, no, no, no, no.
Peter: I'll prove myself to you!
Dana: (guiding him back to the door) That's not necessary.
Peter: Yeah. I'll solve your little problem.
Dana: Okay...
Peter: And then you'll say, "Pete Venkman 's a guy who can get things done!"
Dana: Right.
Peter: "I wonder what makes him tick!"
Dana: I wonder!
Peter: "I wonder if he'd be interested in knowing what makes me tick?"
Dana: Right!
Peter: I bet you're going to be thinking about me after I'm gone.
Dana: I bet I am!
(She pushes him out the door. He sticks his head back in.)
Peter: No kiss?
(Dana shoves his face out the door and slams it shut.)

I agree its not very fair to judge people by their looks, often you'll miss some of the funnest and brightest ones out there if you do... not always but you never know. That said not very many of us don't make those judgments internally when we meet people whether we want to or not, everyone harshing on you for simply writing down the same judgment they probably would have made is not very fair either and is simply throwing another judgment of a different kind right back at you... hypocrites.
|
Really? I stand by my statement that saying that she's better than the girl because she's apparently shorter and fatter is shallow, immature and idiotic. It's not something I've EVER done in my life, but thanks for assuming I have done it and do do it.
My issue with the OP is she automatically assumed this girl was "lesser" because of physical traits she observed. I don't consider myself to be better than every one who is shorter and heavier than me... do you?
Maybe you need to look up the word hypocrite in the dictionary...?

Dang! I take it back!
Anyway, all the happy sentiments about "I don't care what people look like" sound good and all, but I just don't buy it either.
A few months ago I was at a party and I met some bird. Later that night I said to a buddy of mine "if that gal didn't outweigh me by a hundred pounds, I'd ask her to marry me". He said he thought the same thing when he met her for the first time. We both recognized how shallow that is, but what are you going to do? She may be a wonderful person, but if you don't want to, ahem, kiss her, and you don't think she's good looking, how do you deal with that?

Like I was saying to HelloHockeyFans, biologically we are attracted to people that look healthy. It’s been biologically engineered into our system, our sole purpose on this earth (from a biological standpoint) is too reproduced and we want too reproduced with people that look healthy. Its’ the reason why generally overweight people are considered unattractive, if you carry around and extra 200 lbs you aren’t going to do a very good job of protecting your offspring if a predator comes around (again this is from a biological perspective). Conversely people who are fit and in shape display traits of health, it’s not only weight looks at people who tan. People with white pale skin (me unfortunately) display traits of unhealthiness, because the body knows when your sick you start too loose your color. Conversely people who tan look healthy and vibrant. So some who is ugly is someone who looks unhealthy.

No, not really.
Everyone is going to have a different idea of who is or isn't good looking, and everone is going to be able to look past it to a different degree but we all look at members of the oposite sex and decide if they are attractive or not.
How bout you? Are you a decent down to earth person or are you a shallow A*****e?
You've got the choice between two girls, they're equal in all ways except one weighs 500 lbs has no teeth or hair and loves hockey.
The other girl looks like a Maxim cover girl but hates hockey.
Which would you choose?

Why is it rediculous?
Would you date a chick that looked like that?
Are you really saying that you don't care about looks, or are you a hypocrite who is saying "I don't care about looks, unless you're ugly"?
When is it not rediculous?
400lbs?
300lbs?
What if she has hair in my example, is it not rediculous then?
Seems to me you're racking up some criteria for a standard of beauty Mr. I don't care about those things.

I don't either, I think it impossible for a person to make zero judgments toward other people... maybe he doesn't judge fat people... possibly because he himself is a big dude... hypothetically speaking if that were the case then I'm going to suggest he makes the odd judgment against healthy skinny guys that live at the gym, perhaps he thinks think they are all vain self indulgent tools... or something, whatever... but no one makes zero judgements... maybe some/most can not react or behave as if they have but when people see you they immediately take stalk and start to form an opinion, based on the accumulation of their life experiences and how you fit into that. And if the judgment hits home or somehow inflicts an emotional response, like what heppened with Girlysports, pretty tough to keep the poker face.

You do know that girls are catty right? Girls notice other girls more than guys notice girls
And haven't you guys all mumbled the phrase, "What's she doing with him?" at least once in a lifetime?

Aint buying this.
maybe in the "western" world this may hold true as we have been conditioned to believe that "thin" is in.
look at a whole bunch of other places around the world....and the standards are completely different.
What is considered "unhealthy" here....is considered quite attractive in other cultures.
It just isnt that simple.....as "fat" is also a subjective term. Some are obvious and some are not....meaning exactly what I might consider fat....you may find well within your desireable range. Everyone is different and as such have very different standards as to what they are attracted too.

Me neither if I where to take a girl form the hottie draft and a woman from the Siberian wrestling team I don’t believe Dion could honestly say he doesn’t see a difference, at least one that would affect how he makes his decision on dating one of them.

I did not read any replies before responding to the OP. In any case, any woman or man who simply throws out a, 'I could not believe it because I'm better looking than that person' obviously needs to be hit with a sledgehammer (figuratively speaking) of a reality check.
