Regular cable is RG59. You need to use RG6. And that picture is NOT indicative of regular setup. It has a booster - seriously do not need that.

RG6 runs from the Dish to the Switch and then to the Reciever.

So I just checked. I have RG6 cable running from the satellite dish down into the laundry room where it was linked up with the cable that went to the old satellite box in the basement.

So all the cable that will be used now will be RG6. So what I'm hearing is that the cable from the Dish goes into some kind of switch from Bell, and then another RG6 cable running from that into the HD PVR receiver? Then I just use HDMI cables going from the receiver to the TV?

Sorry for all the non-stop questions. I'm not great with this kind of stuff at all. I sure appreciate the help though.

EDIT: oh, also, I DID run RG6 up to this room. my mistake.

Exactly.

If you have the Bell HD PVR, you will have to run 2 cables from the switch box to the PVR if you want to use both tuners (record 1 show, and watch another at the same time.) As far as I know, this is optional though.

The switch is huge. A big Silver thing with 4 inputs on one side, and 4 outputs on the other side.

Use all RG6 cable from your dish to your PVR. Some people have said that they were able to use RG59 in a pinch but it never worked for me and it's not advised.

From your PVR to your HDTV use an HDMI cable or if you haven't got one yet, use component[red, blue, green] cables for video with red+white audio composite cables. If you don't have component cables, I've gotten away with using composite cables [red, white, yellow] in the component inputs and outputs.

This will give you HD TV. If you run RG cable from your PVR to your TV, it will only give SD TV.

Lol, except when that projector is in a south facing walkout basement with a ton of windows with no window coverings so it can't be watched until it gets dark enough like 11pm..

My movie watching has totally decreased over the summer for that reason. I really really need to get some blinds.

The big reason to use RG6 is that along with the television signal, the coax cable also has to send power from the receiver to the switch and the LNB part of the dish. People will say that they used RG59 and it worked just fine, but then again I have also seen speaker wire used to run household 120 volt power. Doesn't mean it's right and also doesn't mean it won't cause issues.

And as my dead 3100 receiver will attest; running RG59 isn't a good thing.
