I didn't see the fur, still don't actually, in the original pciture. I was a biology major at one point, I'm pretty sure that would've told me not a turtle.
Look under the neck in both pictures, and the upper arm in the second picture. Looks like fur to me.

Yeah, it's pretty clear in the second picture, in the first picture it looked like sand to me. I see it now.

well, what if it is actually a demon dog from hell? I for one will not welcome our new demon dog overlords.
And I guess a dead overlord doesn't really need welcoming!

I'm late to the party but this is interesting. I have a degree in zoology and have looked at a lot of dead mammals (which this clearly is), but it is hard to tell what this is from the two photos. It is definitely a carnivore. I don't think it is a raccoon because the cheek teeth are a bit too sharp and it appears to have a fairly pronounced carnassial pair. It doesn't have the elongated rostrum characteristic of a canine, but it is likely to be domestic as domestic dogs have been bred so many different ways that a pug and a greyhound don't even look like the same species. Plus it is pretty chubby to be a wild animal.
