Lance Bouma, don't really like this pick, He's a bit gritty but hands of stone.

One never knows though.

Why? They're going to be available later in the draft most likely.

Patterns his game after his favorite player Jarome Iginla because "I like the way he leads by example and the way he can change the outcome of the game".

I'd sure like to see them draft a big enforcer next.

I'm from that general part of Alberta and know of his family ... my mom knows his parents and grand parents. They have a solid reputation, so he should have a good head on his shoulders and a good attitude.

If anyone from the Provost area are on here....

I take it he's from the 'Bouma meats' family?

Are there really that many players available in the third round that have "lots of offensive skill"?

And if so those consistency issues must be awful if they lasted this long.

Of course there are some gems that come out of the later rounds but there is a reason that these so-called skilled guys have been passed twice or more by NHL teams.

If Bouma makes it to the NHL in any capacity from the third round then it is a good pick and it appears that he has a much better chance than Johnny Superskills-but-no-smarts/heart/desire.

As much as we need skill there was an awful a lot of complaining about the bottom six guys. Bouma provides the possibility of being a solid 3rd line defensive forward that can be great on the forecheck. These guys are valuable in the NHL as well.

I grew up about an hour away from Provost, but knew a Bouma family through sports. I don't know if Lance is from the same family or not, but the one I knew of was a farmer/rancher from south of Provost somewhere.

Nice to see the Flames take a chance on this kid..

Every single night he is the Giants' hardest worker. Doesn't score much, but he creates a lot of space for his linemates. He hits a lot, skates hard, and will drop 'em on occasion. I'd say he's pegged to be the main fighter in Vancouver next year with the departure of Garet Hunt.

Longshot to make the NHL IMO, but as a checker or 4th line energy guy, who knows?
