If you can't tell the difference between spanking and abuse, I guess my point went over your head.

If Sweden stopped corporal punishment in 1979, it would explain why in 2008 there seems to be an overwhelming amount of Black and Death Metal coming out of that country.

Or looked at another way....Maybe that is why some of the Swedes in the NHL play a little soft at times....

Pssh wussies. Physical punishment was nothing. I took the leather belt, the bamboo feather duster, and the good ol' back of the hand. No...psychological punishment was much more effective during my childhood. I still remember the time when I was like 7 or 8, when my dad got so angry he threatened to kick me out of the house. Not only did he threaten, he took a suitcase from the basement, packed a bunch of my clothes and toys in it, dragged me out of the house and sat me on the front steps with the suitcase and told me to never come back. Then about 5 mins later he came back and brought me in. I'm sure I learned my lesson that day...whatever it was... :P

In any event, humans respond to pain as a teaching mechanism. I'm not advocating full scale beatings, but the very threat of it is often enough to reinforce proper behaviors.

I edited my post. Doesn't make my joke any more clever.

The very threat of full scale beatings or pain is also a good way to learn fear.
