A pair of heavy leather gloves, a box, and a car ride to the country. Problem solved.

Perhaps I can help - bats seem to dislike me (ie. softball bats).

It is with deep regret and sadness in my heart that I write these words. Tonight, at approximately 8:30 pm, our friend the little brown porch bat passed away. After closer examination, it was revealed that the bat suffered from a broken wing and was unable to fly. Consequently, the bat was euthanized by a family member of mine from a farm in a farmly kind of way. The little brown bat will be missed.

I never looked at the pics until you posted that it was toast. Now that I did, it looks like the little guy's wing was stuck behind the siding. It looked like he couldn't leave even if he wanted to.
Probably planned to sleep there for the night and wedged his wing in there and then couldn't get it out in the morning.
Did you see him leave at all and then come back?

No. Didn't see him leave at all. Looked like he was content to stay huddled up for a couple days. It wasn't until Wednesday or Thursday that it looked as though he was trying to take off.
In hindsight, you are probably right in describing the situation. He's lucky he lived as long as he did though. The family member who "took care of business" and the others that are visiting this weekend are closer to the "shoot, shovel, shut up" variety than "call the Humane Society".

It's become a source of enjoyment for my family now. Make fun of the guy who wanted to call the Humane Society or the Wildlife Conservation people to help a little brown bat with a broken wing. Part of me died last night with the little guy. There is no emoticon to express the emotions I feel.

It's nothing to be made fun of for.

I think Mister Mister put it best:
Take these broken wings
And learn to fly again, learn to live free
When we hear the voices sing
The book of love will open up and let us in
Take these broken wings...

Last summer, at the family cottage up at Lake Wabamun, I looked in a mug first thing in the morning that was sitting out on the table and it contained a little brown bat. I initially thought it was dead, so I went to go dump it outside. I noticed it move, so I brought it inside. For the rest of the day, the bat stayed in the mug, not moving very much at all. At sunset, I put the mug outside and the bat joined its brethren.
