The day an Academy Award is given for someone playing a superhero or villain, I'll eat my hat. The Oscar folks are too stuffy.

Ya, I'm not saying he will win. Heck, I haven't even seen the movie obviously.

I was just speculating that it looks like he's hammered the role. And that with his sudden death, and his possibly deserving oscar for 'Brokeback' I could see him getting a nomination with this.

I mean, the Academy certainly isn't above rewarding 'deserving' winners for less than stellar performances.

Crowe for 'Gladiator' (should have won it for 'Inside Man')
Washington for 'Training Day' (should have won for 'Malcolm X')
Scorcese for 'The Departed' (should have won for, well, you decide...)

I'm not saying these people were originally cheated out of an earlier Oscar or anything, but the things they did win for weren't their greatest work.

Anyway, I'm really stoked to see this. Ledger was living the role pretty seriously by all accounts, because he wanted to be perfect. I was a bit sketchy on his casting originally, but boy oh boy, looks like he's going to put on a show.

Not only that, but they will probably never give an Academy Award to someone in a genre flick. Like Johnny Depp getting nominated for playing Captain Sparrow, which was probably the best performance that year, the academy preferred to go with someone in a dramatic role. That's even IF Heath even gets nominated, for playing the role that essentially killed him.

When exactly did Depp deserve to win as Sparrow?? In 2003, he was nominated for that role and yes, no doubt, he was great, but Sean Penn in Mystic River was easily the best performance that year. I've got no issue with that win at all. Depp didn't get nominated for the other two pirate movies, the movies weren't great, but his performance as always was solid, but you wanna take away an oscar from Forest Whitaker, or Phillip Seymour Hoffman??? NO WAY.

I know this was posted in the Iron Man thread, but I thought I would post it here.

Also, near the end of the trailer, there's a short clip of Harvey Dent in a car, holding a gun, if you look closely, you can see burn marks on the left side of his face. VERY COOL.

I love the line from Harvey Dent:

I don't buy it. Looks pretty fake if you ask me, but we will see.

This is my most anticipated movie of the year. Even more than Hamlet 2!
