Really?

Charles seems like a questionable pick for the Chiefs.

They're going to be a bad team this year. It's hard to doubt that. The thing about Charles is that he'll likely never be your feature back. He's a home run, big play guy, but couldn't get tough yards between the tackles in college. He's the guy that would have 20 yards going into the 4th quarter, bust two big runs and end the day at 150 yards (and he did it several times last year). He's a pretty safe pick as a guy with his explosiveness will make plays, but he's a supplementary player.

He'd be a good pick for a team with a good, not great back that could use a different look for 8-10 plays a game. A team on the cusp of the playoffs that could turn into a playoff team with a couple of explosive runs.

The draft is funny - it's hilarious going all over the internet and reading fan reactions. The fact is that no one had a good draft yet. We'll have an idea by August and September, but most fans get caught in the rut of 'recognize the player + BCS school = future pro bowler'.

Yeah, any team can hype how well they did at the draft today, but the proof shows in October and November. With their third round picks the Chiefs took a RB, TE and Safety. Which to me were the 3 positions in their organization which already had the best depth. But they did have a lot of draft picks so I guess they figured they could try a few of these home run swings and see which ones connect.

Since they have Larry Johnson locked up I'm pretty sure that Charles wasn't drafted to be a tough between the tackles, every down back.

I think it's funny to read all the 'experts' takes on the draft. Makes me laugh.

I'll disagree with you though, the Minnesota Vikings had a great draft.

I know Charles won't be the every down back, but I think a rebuilding team should be looking to find a potential feature back. Especially with a 29 year old starting RB coming off an injury.

That is what I was thinking. They could have gotten Clady and Alberts in the first. As well as adding a first rounder for next year? Unbelievable. If the rumour was true the Chiefs would have gotten more for giving up the 5th pick than they got for Jared Allen. Either the trade rumour wasn't true or Herm was too in love with Dorsey.

I agree about safety and RB, but the Chiefs need a blocking TE to replace Jason Dunn. Cottam is pretty big like Dunn (277lbs) hopefully he can fill that hole plus catch well enough to take over for TG when he ultimatly retires or if his skills erode with age.

Personally, I think the Niners need more help on the D-Line, but there are a number of holes to fill. If Joe Staley builds on his rookie year then amybe the O-line can hold up.
So the 49ers ended up passing on DeSean Jackson twice.

Rd.1 - Kentwan Balmer DE 6'5" 298 North Carolina
Rd.2 - Chilo Rachal OG 6'5" 315 Southern Cal

So they did start on the D-Line, then got another body for the O-line.

Good draft for the Niners, from a "had some needs and got players to have a chance to fill those needs" point of view. But I think it takes 3 years to fully judge a draft.

Calgarian Rolly Lumbala signs with the Dolphins as a UFA.

What a nice kid. I was hoping he was going to go somewhere via UFA.

Sounds like the Dolphins had been tracking him for awhile... hopefully he'll stick after mini-camp and see some special teams time or perhaps even at FB.

Man I love what the Eagles did. They get two players that many projected as first rounders in the second round (Laws and Jackson) and will have two first round picks next year. Love the Demps and Ikegwuonu picks as well. Eagles finally have someone who can return kicks. I think Desean and Westbrook are going to create matchup nightmares for defenses.

EDIT: Also got to give the Chiefs some props. That was a solid draft for them.

The wildcats and browns can be proud.

he has a nice parachute in the cfl if it doesn't work out, but he has always been able to move remarkably well in a large frame, if he can still move at 251 like he could at 220 ... that will certainly help for ST time.

Rolly also got drafted by the BC Lions in the 2nd round (9th overall). Javier Glatt, a former Brown, is a stud MLB there. I hope he sticks in Miami in some capacity, but being a 9th overall pick in the CFL (which is lower because of his NFL prospects, IMO) is something he can be pretty proud of.

As for his mobility, I've been told that he still has good feet and his athletic skill might allow him to catch the odd ball and carry in the red zone.

I think that makes for 3 browns in the CFL currently correct? BB still in Hamilton?
