You know that non of that stuff is in anyway legal, I would be contacting labor standards, at the very worst, then you can quit your job and qualify for EI, or you could go to your doctor get him to support that this job is causing you undo stress or danger and go on short term paid stress leave.

I called the Workplace Health & Safety, and they are going to send somebody to the office to inspect and consult. Now I just have to tell my boss what I did! My boss seems genuine, but doesn't trust anybody. He used a spy cam to fire a previous employee. I just hope he looks at this as improving our job and not trying to screww him over, which I fear.

It sounds so easy, but I don't even remeber what it's like to be in good work environment. I am scared to do it, I don't know why. I need to pay my bills.

Read my previous post, are our bosses brothers? My boss is always spying. I find my desk dug through all the time. One time he searched my computers e-mails while I was on vacation.

Well going on disability or having a mental breakdown certainly won't help you pay your bills. In addition, I'm sure that there are people who can or would support you through your search. However, it doesn't hurt to LOOK for a job while still doing yours.

Sounds like you two are employed by ######bags.. Considering the lack of workers in Calgary you guys should tolerate those sorts of working conditions. I know I wouldnt.

I think we work at the same place... well I know we don't, but he fired our last secretary by searching through her e-mails while she was on vacation. How do people like this get in situations of power like this?

That's why I erase my history, he'll have trouble with that. But if he does, he deserves it.

Here's hoping that he hasn't figured out your username and views your opinions from home.

I see nothing wrong with a boss checking to see if employees are doing other things on company time. They don't do these things unless they have a good reason to do so.

So you don't view posting on company time as theft?

^^

If boss is so anal they can't even check CP on their breaks or whatever, maybe he needs to reconsider his policies. Strict to that extreme does not generate as much bottom line as something more lenient methodically thought through.

Sorry. My bad.

But no, I don't consider it stealing. Even when we are "on shift" we take intermittent breaks of 20 to 90 seconds. 90 seconds is plenty of time to relax and read a thread or share a thought, especially if CP is a hot link.

If buddy is not getting work done, then thats a different story. But benefit of the doubt and fair assessment of character over time does wonders for productivity. If buddy is getting his stuff done better than the other guys I could of hired, I don't care how much I see them on CP.

Just my opinion tho.

i dont live in calgary so i dont know what the job situation is like there, but i would get out of there ASAP. i dont value money as much as job satisfaction, that's probably why i work at a non profit. i understand that you need to make money to pay for a mortgage/rent and other expenses, but its just not worth it!

good bosses are ones that are respected by others...i wouldnt put up with that crap for more than a week, especially after he doesnt really change anything after you talk to him. does he not value his employees?

im glad you called. hopefully something good comes of it and your boss learns a lesson.

To a point... I think if you are getting your work done effectively and doing what is expected of you than no. But yes, I do know of people that pillage the company by spending way too much time on the net. Our secretary was fired because she said some rude things about our boss in an e-mail to her husband.

I agree with you completely. I know I do a good job at work, that's why I get bonuses and the top training available. However, our working conditions are less than favourable. The pay is really good.
