Metallica can do whatever they wanna do, just don't try and pull the wool over the fans eyes.

Yes....their music was still good.
Of course it wasn't 'thrash metal'....but it was still good.
They made, what, 6 cds in the thrash metal variety? Maybe they ran out of ideas and switched it up.

I can see how someone would like it, and how an argument can be made as to how its good tunage.
I think their new stuff sucks because it sounds nothing like their old stuff, (even though St. Anger was a definite effort to try and reclaim the glory days, and failed miserably. Apparently you are right, their well of musical ideas has run dry) the stuff I grew up loving. The stuff that revolutionized metal and made Metallica heroes for the metal community.
They made a conscious effect to make music that would sell and make them even richer. And yet people still respect them as artists. Brutal.

What will happen first......the Canucks winning a cup or AC/DC playing a rock ballad?

For what other reason does an artist make money....if not to sell it and make money?

Yeah, you got me there. You didn't say that. Sorry.
I like AC/DC and I think it's byllshyt when someone says "AC/DC sucks and play the same song over and over".
Dismissing them as "cawk rock" seems pretty silly. Sure, Bon Scott wore tight pants, but AC/DC recorded their first album 33 years ago and it still stands up (no pun intended) today.
What band that doesn't suck will put out an album this year that will still be selling in 2041?

radiohead???
i just watched ACDCs DVD with all their tracks over history and whilst great, VERY repetitive and to the point...
but then ACDC is only playing what its fans want.
and why are we talking about nickelback as if they're cool?
nobody in the world thinks they're actually cool, they never have been - souless redneck rock.

There are tons of bands out there that sound similar in most of their songs. Heck, John Fogerty was sued by his old label because he sounded too much like CCR. Thankfully, the judge laughed it out of court because, of course, Fogerty had written most of the CCR stuff. I can tell a Van Halen song within about 5 seconds just from the way Eddie plays the guitar. Why does a band need to reinvent itself all the time?
I've been an AC/DC fan since I was about ten years old, I still look forward to every release (BTW, the 3 DVD set released last year is excellent).

No. Listen to their albums... I would also not agree that the singles are all the same but the difference is much more significant on the albums.

Im a huge Linkin Park fan, seen them 4 times in concert, have everything they have put out and sure, some of their stuff sounds the same, not all, people who only listen to their singles or hear their name and draw that conclusion.
I like to have fun when I listen to music and I do when I listen to LP. I don't need the a strong message in the lyrics, I don't need something that is deemed "artistic", I don't need all that stuff that people need to justify them listening to "good music". I listen to LP because their songs are catchy as hell and it's a bunch of toe-tapping, head bobbin fun. I ain't a snob to popular music.

Since Nickelback is the poster boy for bad music to the vocal minority/majority (who knows which) on this site, can the self proclaimed defenders of good taste explain to me what is formulaic or just plain awful about these songs:
Breathe
Leader Of Men
Old Enough
They are all from The State. Maybe I just like "bad" music, I'm okay with that; I'm from the 80's. I'll admit I do not have the entire Nickelback collection, but did buy the next two CD's. I will say I don't like much on them. I am not being defensive, because arguing about taste and personal preferences is kind of silly; I am genuinely curious.
Give me New Model Army, Marillion, REM, The Lucy Show, Squeeze, China Crisis, U2 and Pearl Jam and I'm happy. I don't like things because they are art, or experimental, I like them because they make me feel something whether it be happiness or sadness. I enjoy listening to them, just like quite a bit of Nickelback.
Okay I am taking my Ultravox and Alphaville records and going back to 1982.

Meh, nothing is "wrong" with Nickelback music. Ignore the people who go on misguided rants.
For what Nickelback does, they are rather great at it. Sure, it's derivative, but it satisfies a rather large musical niche (power cord rock) and currently there isn't a better band that does it.
Not all music needs to be experimental, orchestrated and pretentious up the ying yang. Mostly, the haters of Nickelback despise that it's music for the masses. You can't listen to Nickelback and then brag about how awesome you are to everyone around you.
I like Nickelback. I like many pretentious indy bands. I like alot of classical music. Do I have no taste in music?
More importantly, do I really give a crap what others think of my music tastes?

In response to the thread title I have only herd the songs that get played on the radio and yes to me they all sound the same
In response to the Good music/ Bad Music debate I have always held the stance that music is music and that you don’t need a reason to like it, that is what is so great about music its yours and no one can take that from you
If you like it it’s good, if you don’t like it than it sucks doesn’t really matter what anyone else thinks
That all being said I think Linkin Park sucks along with Nickleback, creed, etc.

You can sell millions of records and not suck.
You can also sell millions of albums and be flavour of the month and in 10 years, people who bought the record will be embarrassed about it... Nickelback, Limp Bizkit, Kid Rock, Korn.

Pink Floyd is the biggest pile of garbage I've ever heard (IMO). The Wall pt 2 is the only song I can even stand to listen to.
