I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

ive been to quite a few different donair places,

donair place in shawnessy is good, my donair is better IMO, used to go to the one in southland alot but since they changed owners didnt taste the same. Original owner has since opened one in dover

A&A near sait is great too, you REALLY have to try the chicken shawarmas at A&A, by far one the best dishes i have eaten and the damn things are huge.

That recipe is pretty good and I've used it before. Donair sauce is super easy to make, especially if you use sweetened condensed milk instead of condensed milk and sugar.

I had a beef Shawarma from the Falafel king on 8th ave over the weekend. It was so bad I wanted to go back and throw it at the guy that made it..

Seniore's Pizza in the south makes a good one.

I work at the North one so I am biased but...

I wouldn't say it is the best, but it is decent. The one's where I work (in the North) suck, the meat isn't off the stick thing, we get it preshredded, and the taste just isn't right.

Shawrama king is awesome though.

i went to the Donair Place a month ago based on this threads recommendations. please tell me i went on an off night because i can honestly, 100% say that was the worst donair i have ever tasted in my life in any place of the world ive tried.

the meat was god awful and thats the main deal. the guy making it told me he doesnt even like them, he only eats shwarmas

Posts like this make me believe you guys don't really know what a donair is.

Tzatiki sauce??

At the very least what Alberta calls a donair, is different from what a real donair is. The kind invented and consumed in Halifax.

EDIT: Rico's recipe appears to be correct.

When I lived in Toronto, one of the biggest things I missed from Halifax was donairs. In T.O. if you do find a restaurant that says "doniars" they come with Tzatziki, when I bought one (unknowing it didn't have sweet sauce) and took a huge bite I almost threw up. I seriously thought it was rotten. After that I was able to eat them that way but it just doesn't squash the donair craving.

Another thing, a real donair with the works includes onions and tomatoes ONLY! No cucumbers, lettuce, olives, pickles etc...

Serves me right I suppose. Is Amin's Donair still on 1st and 7th Ave? I could have sworn it was near the crack Mac's by 8th street.

Frickin amazing, and open late night I do believe. Be prepared for rotten onion breath for the rest of the day after one of those though.
Come on, that is very mediocre.

Can someone break down the regional differences in Donairs for me?

I'm having a tough time visualizing it.

+1 for Tazza Deli in Bridgeland. I like them better than Jimmy's.
