Having survived two years on an occupied territory during the Bosnian war and having seen things, I agree with your grandfather wholeheartedly.
My grandfather was a member of the communist underground during WWII, charged with keeping radio contact with the resistance from the basement of his cafe, frequented by the Germans. He also hid and cared for wounded resistance fighters who couldn't escape after raids on German targets. Watching the British show 'Alo, 'Alo, always brings a smile to my face because of that.
He died when I was a baby and I never had a chance to talk to him about the war. My grandmother told me that he wouldn't have talked anyway and she told me what she knew about it. It's such a pity that our town never honoured the local resistance by keeping a proper historical record of their activities.
