Weird. I hated chinese food until I was ~15. Now I love it. But I remember pissing and moaning whenever the 'rents ordered chinese instead of pizza.

Two weeks ago I went to Fuddruckers in Saskatoon. That brought back memories. The cheese pump was heavenly. It's amazing how much easier it is to operate one of those things when you're not smashed out of your mind at 711 at 3AM

My wife has this little trick,
Get a few small containers of play Dough and only break em out when you go to a restaurant.
It keeps the kids occupied and you can actually have a conversation with your partner.
Your selection of places to go increases greatly when you don't have to worry about bored kids....

There are plenty of Red Robin's in Van, I was never a huge fan, but the Guacamole Burger is unreal. And their fries with a side of Ranch......Love it!!
I don't go very often because of its family friendly atmosphere. Too many kids birthday parties going on. Too noisy. But their burgers are pretty good.

If nothing else, this thread will help serve as a reference on where not to go to dinner if kids aren't with you. So I appreciate it on that level.
Seriously - do you need to take the kids with you to Chianti? (Not anyone here, people in general). Get a babysitter.

Why not? They are serving Chef-Boy-Ardee from a can, and calling it Italian food.

Does anyone remember back in the day there was a Chuckie Cheese on 32nd Ave in the NE right beside the porno store? To this day I still cannot figure out why you would have a kiddie restaurant right beside a porno store.

By child friendly, I had assumed that you wanted a restaurant that served Children at a reasonable rate.
Such as $1.95/lb

LOL! Yeah, there was also a Cyclepath located there. I asked the owner what he thought of the neighbours. He liked them because they were open later and kept an eye on things for him.

Olive Garden sucks. East Side Mario's was the worst service I ever got in my entire life. White Spot is good for kids, they love the Pirate Packs. The burgers are really good there.

Was at Jack Astors on Family day with my 3 year old and my sisters 3 boys.
They enjoyed the table colouring for a little while and seemed to enjoy the food - but my 3 year old was bored out of his mind after 10 minutes - plus he was scared lifeless by the 3 giant Elvis heads that were looming over us.
Food took too long to come out and other than 347 tiny TV's that were too far away to see, there isn't much else to entertain the kiddies.
I've pretty much given up on having a decent time eating out with a 3 year old.

I've seen kids enjoying themselves at Diner Deluxe on Edmonton trail. The atmosphere and food is great for both kids and parents.

There's none in Calgary anymore? Surprising. There's one in Edmonton just off of 170th Ave, a couple of minutes north after passing West Edmonton Mall. I was just there a couple weeks ago.

What happened to the Kelsey's chain in CGY? They are still in EDM, but all seem to have closed shop here. Not that we are missing anything.
I was amazed by the number of chain restaurants in EDM last weekend. Where do people live? There were no houses - only strip malls and big chain restaurants.
