It is cheaper to take a cab than to take the shuttle bus. However, when you take the cab, make sure you tell the driver to NOT take the freeway.
Last time we went to Mandalay Bay it cost about $8.00 in cab fare because our driver took the strip. It cost our friends $19.00 because the driver took the freeway.
I knew to ask this because my father-in-law experienced the same thing. He was irate at the driver for taking the freeway because it cost over double of what it normally took to get to his hotel (my in-laws go twice a year to Vegas).

You can take shuttle busses for really cheap to outlet malls and other casinos. Harrah's has a great shuttle bus that takes you places. I can't remember if it is free or really cheap. My in-laws talk about it, I haven't actually done it.

Definitely check out each place. Fremont was kinda neat too. Nothing spectacular though, but something worth checking out.

I've been twice and both times made a trip to In'n'Out. My buddy has been like 15 times and hasn't once not gone to in'n'out.

You definitely have to go down to the old strip one night. Even if it's just for a couple hours.
It's so funny, I recently went to vegas a few months back for the first time. As I was leaving, I was so hungover, and sore, at the airport I stated that I doubt I'll ever go back unless it's for another big event such as a bachelor party or something.
Now a few months later, I really can not wait to get back there!

Just take the 95 all the way up there. It'll be a pretty good drive, but the neighborhood a few miles past the Santa Fe Casino and to the East, IIRC. (My mom used to leave near there)

I guess I should check in here as well. I'm glad somebody mentioned In'n'out, I've wanted to try one of those places since way back.
Also it sounds like driving down there/having a car in Vegas would be pretty good, so I guess you'll be catching flak for that too Chris .

so google maps tells me that it's about a 20hr drive down there. About how much money would that cost someone in gas?
Looking online, hotels aren't too expensive, it's just the flight down there that is (of course what really makes vegas expensive is what you spend down there).
I figure, it doesnt matter what hotel you stay @, as long as it's decent and on the strip. The only time I spent in my hotel, was while I was sleeping and showering.

Depends on your car. Last summer I drove it straight through, it took me 21 hours, maybe the time change confused me...Anyway, my SUV gets about 20 miles per gallon and I filled up about every four hours. So for me, it was about 500 bucks there and back in gas. I don't suggest driving straight through, I was almost asleep at the wheel the last hour or so. Salt Lake City, if you can really push it the first day, would be a good stopping point.

I don't like all this ripping. We need to deflect this.
You think you'll build up enough confidence to walk by the entrance of a strip club or save that for next time?

I totally forgot about In-N-Out. I went there once a couple of years ago and it was fantastic. I remember walking in and seeing an employee taking whole potatoes and pressing them into fries. It's a complete change of pace from seeing the kitchen of McDonald's which looks like the last place food would/could be prepared.

Oh another thing, I think cabbies get paid your cover charge to get into the higher end strip clubs ($35 or so if I remember correctly), so you should be able to get the ride to them for free.

I drove down with 2 other buddies and met up with 4 other guys who flew in cuz they couldn't take an extra few days off work. We ended up getting a Chrysler 300C(lol) for the drive. So comfy, quiet and fast. We left McKenzie at 2:30pm, got to the Coutts/Sweetgrass border at 5pm. Arrived in Vegas at around 9am local time with 3hrs sleep. So just over 19hrs and the 2 of us drove most of the time. The 3rd guy was pretty lazy. I'll have to check my bills again, but I think it was about $400-475 in gas, there and back. So car rental and gas was easily under $600, and we were down there for 4 days.
Definitely go to Spearmint right away as soon as you land. You can also see Treasures just off the I-15 behind the cement wall, but I've yet to see any reviews. As others have said, California girls come in on Fridays and early Saturday so that is the time go find them.
Have fun. A buddy of mine is engaged and we're trying to plan for the next event down there.

It was true before, but things have changed, or we just got crappy cab drivers. Last summer, the cabbie took us to Spearmint and the ride was free but cover charge was not. In 2005, my friends were able to get a free cab ride and free cover.

In addition to the other recommendations on here I would suggest doing a search on pollstar.com and finding out what concerts are going on during your stay. Last time I was in Vegas we saw the Black Crowes at the Hard Rock and it was quite the party.
Also, although I have not tried it myself you should maybe check out the Richard Petty Driving Experience...it looks like a blast.

Doesnt Vegas have enough problems without CP getting involved?
Go catch a Wranglers game and let us know how it goes.
Hookers and Blow. <-----Had to be said yet again, as Vegas is the Capital of Hookers and Blow.

I don't know about Del Taco, but whenever I'm in the States I always hit up Baja Fresh for quick and tasty Mexican food (I'm fairly picky when it comes to fast food, and this chain has been called the "Subway" of its type, ie/ fresh ingredients, made-to-order, etc.). There has to be one in Vegas.
For poker tourneys, the daily Caesar's MTTs are supposed to be the best value in the city. Lots of starting chips, good prize pool, etc.
Will post more as I think of it or come across it- I listen to a bunch of poker podcasts and they are always mentioning Vegas hotspots.

Much appreciated. Poker is about the only casino game in which I enjoy, I think mainly because I feel like my fate is more or less in my own hands, rather than just dumb luck. I definitely want to play a tourny or two.
These suggestions are fantastic guys and girls, keep 'em coming!
