I have sold cars for about 4 years and nissan is a nice car. If you were to buy an altima get the v6 same highway miles and you only give up about 1 mpg in the city plus its more reliable than the 4 cyl.
If you go hybrid get the civic hybrid def a better choice.
but really stay away from toyota now because they are having alot of recall issues since they are pumping cars out so fast they are cutting corners.
The dealership i worked at was a nissan and Subaru Dealership and the wrx is a reliable car. you can buy one but with the awd and turbo its not going to get the best mpg.
I would lease a vehicle because most people dont keep cars forever and you can get one for cheaper a month and once the 3 years is up you turn it in and get a new one so you are always in warrantee. Nissan will also give a better deal on the second lease deal.

i got myself an american built car known as the Jeep, i get great gas mileage and have had no problems at all with it. Unlike a Volkswagon that just started to fall apart within a few years, new clutch, new engine, outrageous costs and terrible service....the worst....still there was the honda, good car, but everyone had one and the service from honda was down right disgusting...again my american built car as been a pleasure and the dealership has treated me first class....dont buy the hype people.

I also buy american.. The japanese stuff is so bland, the new civics are just hideous, I saw one of those new accord 2 doors the other day, it was so ugly I couldnt help but laugh.. Toyota hasnt had decent styling in years.. I also tend to agree with a previous poster about their quality issues, they have really taken a nose dive in the last couple of years.. American cars have really improved in the last 5 or so years.. I bought a GMC diesel truck last year to drive between shuswaps and calgary, its amazing. So much power, especially with the chip on, and I still get 21mpg.. The fuel is normally 20 cents cheaper than gas so I save a fair amount compared to a gas truck. Personally I think you get better bang for your buck buying domestic..

NEVER. this is the first time in Honda Canada history i think. When the new civics came out the lowest rate they had was 5.9%.
.9% with acura too. I think it's to combat the US car shopping. If you bought out the car in full they had rebates of between $1500 to $5000 too.

Maybe the japanese stuff is bland but surely you aren't comparing them to American cars right?
It also depends if you like switching cars every few years because there is no contest in terms of resale value.
As for quality issues, I see one american car company in the top 10 and it's 10th. Ouch for Nissan.
Edit:whoops maybe i should find a more recent article then 2005. hehehehe

Ok from Oct. 2007. hehe
http://www.cartest.ca/which_2007_models_are_most_a.htm
• 34 of the 39 models in the 'Most Reliable' list are Asian: 17 are from Toyota (including Lexus and Scion); seven are from Honda (including Acura); three each from Hyundai and Nissan (including Infiniti); two are from Subaru; and one each from Mitsubishi and Mazda.
Despite Ford's improvement, U.S. brands account for almost half the models -- 20 of 44 -- on CR's list of 'Least Reliable' models. Thirteen are from General Motors, six from Chrysler, and one from Ford. European makes account for 17 models, including six each from Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen/Audi. Not all models carrying Asian nameplates are reliable, either. The Hyundai Entourage; Infiniti QX56; Mazda CX-7; Nissan Armada (4WD), Quest, and Titan (4WD); and Toyota Tundra (V8, 4WD) are all on the 'Least Reliable' list.

I have to agree with Honda servicing though. You must have went to crowfoot honda. they blow. Good thing my cars haven't broken down yet.

Toyota skids in reliability rankings
Automaker slips to fifth from first place, and some versions of Camry, Tundra and Lexus GS no longer recommended.
The survey dropped Toyota from first to fifth place - behind Honda, Acura, Scion and Subaru - in average vehicle reliability. The rankings are based on average predicted reliability for all models sold under a given brand.
Consumer Reports said it no longer recommends V6 versions of Toyota's Camry or four-wheel-drive V8 versions of its Tundra pick-up because of poor reliability.

So what, stats don't always tell the truth. I drive 2005 Ford Escape XLT that currently has 63,000 kms on it. Other than oil changes this vehicle has never given me a problem.

yes and no...people have there biases...i use my experience and trusted friends experience....you can also rip that apart as well...
its all marketing....so i dont usually buy it
honda service sucks huge balls...your right about crowfoot and it was even worse at carter honda in vancouver...and my jeep dealer has been great and that is just in contrast to my experience...at other places...Volkswagon sucks too....
I enjoy my ride, not too many of them on the road, it was a good price, it is great on gas....and it fullfills my needs
something i have noticed, is my first car at 16 was a hand me down from my grandparents..a sweet 78 impala, which cost me almost 40 dollars to fill at around 42 cents per back then....and it got me 350 km....in contrast my jeep at over a buck a litre cost 45 bucks to fill up and takes me about 500km...

and Ford's reputation in recent years is quite positive, actually so this isn't a huge surprise.

That Nissan ranking is interesting. I bought an 01 Pathfinder last winter and it has been nothing but trouble. It was a big mistake. I tempted to cut my losses and go to that Pilot at 0.9%

Wow I really find it hard to believe that Mercedes-Benz have six of the most unreliable cars. My dad's been driving them for the better part of the last 15-20 years and he's never had a problem with any of them. The resale on those thing is also just ridculously good

Well blame that on the Germans who were drunk when they tied that anchor Chrysler around their leg a few years back. Sure it became cheaper to make Benz's, but their reputation for garbage interiors and shoddy manufacturing has been brought over from Chrysler.
Now that they've given them the boot, as soon as that junk filters through the product cycle, Benz will be back up there.
