I did 36 hours without sleep recently. It was due to a combination of me flying to Hawaii and having insomnia the night before i left.. The trick was to keep moving and make sure i had lots of caffene in my system.
Other times it happened when i was working graveyard shifts. Could never sleep during the day so i often went the work week with maybe an hours sleep between shifts. On my days off i usually slept 14 hours to catch up.
Most nights i need a good 8 hours of sleep.

I need around 7 hours sleep to be completely functioning throughout the day, I can normally come in around 6.5 or 7 hours a night.
Longest amount of time without sleep would be around 50 hours when I was traveling in Europe. I'd gotten the runs in Armenia, couldn't sleep the night before, got on a 1am flight to Prague. I kind of remember getting off the plane, wondering around the city in 30 degree heat and taking a poop in a planter off in some alleyway. I then had to get on a flight to Dublin the next day. I think I slept for over 18 hours when I finally got to my hostel.

I don't know how to sleep, it drives me nuts. 8 hours is what I usually shoot for, but usually end up in the area of 6-7(which I can still definitely handle). For some reason though if I ever manage to get a full 8hrs, the next day I'll get 3-5 tops. As we speak I'm on about 3.5hrs, and I couldve easily slept in today(my first class wasnt until 12:30pm). I just woke up at 5am for whatever reason and that was it. I think I've become so used to it though that I'm not even that bad on 4 or 5 hours anymore, which is a little scary. I really need to learn how to sleep, the concept of a nap is foreign to me.
Longest Ive ever gone without sleep is probably about 32'ish hours. For a guy that can't really sleep, surprisingly I don't think I can pull 40+ hour stretches without at least a couple hours rest.

This past month i have been sleeping less and less.
I devoloped an anal fissure in early November, now for anyone who has had this before i feel your pain.. I went to the doctor who prescribed me with Ditilazem which is like putting a lighter to a flame.. Needless to say the cream did not make things better so the doctor and I decided that surgery was the only option.
The only problem was that i had to wait 10 days to get to an operation.
Worst 10 days ever..
I had one week (7)where i didn't sleep at all, not one minute. I stayed up dying of pain. When i was just about to fall asleep my muscle down there would twitch and i would end up sitting there in my bed all night.. I cried for hours. I have never stayed up for this long ever. My whole body ached and i was in a constant panic over not sleeping. I stressed about not sleeping more than the pain in my ass...
I had a fissurectomy on Jan3rd and i have never felt better.

Dude! That sounds just awful.
I got food poisoning yesterday and was up all night with chest cramps. There is nothing worse than being kept up by sickness.

How does something like that happen? What does the surgery entail? glad to hear you are doing well now.

Basically i was not taking care of myself. I was eating poor and drinking quite heavily, not enough fibre in my system which would make me go to the bathroom 3-4 times a day. I would eat lunch and within an hour have to go to the bathroom to relieve myself. After time i was seeing blood in the toilet and on the toilet paper, Not just a little blood but enough to make cold chills go down your spine. It got to the point where i went to the bathroom and it felt like hot fire was coming out, and everytime i went to the bathroom i would have so much pain that i would literally have to take a bath every day.
I no longer am ever allowed to use toilet paper, i use wipes for babies.
I don't want to get into more than that, google it you will be disgusted..
my advice eat healthy, eat your fruits and vegtables... duh how simple is that...

I've done 3 days once (over 80 hrs)
4 exams in 2 days, all nighter in between. When I finished the last exam, hopped on a flight overseas that transfers in TO with the intention of sleeping, but I can't sleep on flights. Arrive in Rome, check into hotel and stuff. I don't even know how many hours that was, but it was in between 3-4 days.

Just a word of warning about sleep, coming from someone with experience.
If you find yourself overly tired after having a lengthy amount of sleep, wake up with headaches or hear anyone complain about your snoring, you owe it to yourself to follow up with your doctor.
At my worst, I used to sleep for 14 hours a day and wake up feeling absolutely awful and dead tired. I ended up seeing a doctor about this and was finally diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. Basically, your airway doesn't open properly and you literally choke during your sleep, you wake up involuntarily, but never achieve REM sleep (I never actually realized I was waking up during the night since I would fall back to sleep right away). As a result, you're extremely tired all the time.
After dealing with this problem - my life changed for the better. Anyways, I just thought I'd add this in a sleep thread.

Had an idea!

I started taking ZMA a while ago.....and it has helped a lot with my sleeping problems.
I sleep around 7-8 hours per day now, and feel completely refreshed when I wake up.
If anyone has sleeping problems, look into it. Basically a combination of high quality zinc, magnesium and Vitamin b6.

I get 6-7 normally, but could use an hour more so I am totally alert.
Most I have gone is about 76 hours playing Everquest. Let me tell you I am glad that portion of my life is WELL behind me.

A friend of mine has that and has to sleep with a special mask on to force air into his lungs, guite brutal if you think about it.
I used to work with a guy that would sleep for 12-16 hours a day. He worked 8 hour graveyard shifts. He wouldn't talk about it but we all figured that he depressed. This was his thing for over 4 years. On weekends, he'd sleep normal hours and go sledding. Yikes.

I average about 4-6 hours.
I've done 3 days before.. 70 hours or so. It was rough.. I had two finals at 8 am in a row, then got home and started to get ready for sleep when a friend with the same final showed up with beer. So we began drinking. I got home at like 7 am the next day..

I've been meaning to check into this myself. I seem to wake multiple times every night. I feel worst if I sleep longer for some reason. I get headaches and feel more tired if I stay in bed longer it seems. This has been happening for years now, I also snore quite loudly at times I'm told!

Yep, I did the mask thing - the problem was I am such a finicky sleeper that no matter how much I tried, I just couldn't fall asleep with it on. So I went with the mouthpiece instead, while not as effective, it still worked. In addition, I taught myself to sleep with my airway open (similar to how they teach you in CPR, tilting your head up [this works really if your a still sleeper]). It was really all about awareness, because I'd never even heard of sleep apnea before someone mentioned it to me.
Anyways those measures worked until I was able to cure the root of the problem (being overweight, though you can still be skinny and have this, being overweight is a common cause), and now I don't have to worry about it anymore.
As soon as I fixed this and got to sleeping normally, after years of being depressed, my depression was gone. 100% gone.
