One thing we have to remember was that the original was a low-budget sci-fi film made like 25 years ago. There probably wasn't even a plan for a sequel at the time. There is no way to flesh it all out perfectly.
Cool topic trying to figure it all out, but I doubt it ever really makes sense. They have to play fast and loose with the facts/logic or it'll either be really boring or there won't be a story at all.
That being said, what a cool discussion. Makes my head spin.
Hack&Lube, didn't John throw that arm into the molten steel pit as Arnold was going in? Or was that the arm from the lab? I think it was. By Jove, I think you are right. It'd be kind of lame if again they use the "we found this arm in the factory and the technology was decades ahead of anything we have today" excuse.
