7 for alls, True Religions, Acnes and R&Rs are the main ones I have in my wardrobe. Diesels are in there as well, but I haven't bought a new pair of Diesels in almost a year now.
As for why, I like the fit for all the brands I mentioned and for True Religion specifically, I like the back pockets.
|
Acne makes some nice jeans but i dunno for me the back pockets of the True Religions are the worst part haha. But yeah if you like there's no reason you shouldn't wear em.
Edit: You should try on a pair of nudies. They make awesome cuts and are a great way to get into dry denim without buying something you've never tried on from japan.

Also with the urban scene that's exactly what dry denim is unless your talking about urban/hiphop in which case dry denim also works (Jay-z and Lebron James both have a pair of the Sufu Wearhouse Contest Jeans)
Anyways what kind of raw denim do you have right now blankall?
And seriously guys why all the love for True Religion?

Well if your goal is to have fresh looking dry denim, you should probably stick w/ a one wash denim so that it will not fade. Also Dry denim works best when worn tight. Doesnt normally suit clubs where the uniform is dress shoes and preppier jeans. Plus once dry denim starts gettign dirty you can't exactly wash it w/out ruinign it. Also it might work for Jay-Z and Lebron but that is because they can afford to buy a new pair of raw denim everytime it starts to get a little faded.
I own a pair of nudie dry greycast that I have had for about 20 months or so. I wore them like 5 days a week a for a year. They are really starting to fall apart. Looking back I should have started out w/ the Selvage version or maybe a pair of APCs (which you can probably also find at some of the nicer jean stores)
Right now my personal favorite is my 1947 Levi's Collection (LVC) in dry selvage. I know a lot people prefer the Samurais, but I find the quality of the LVC just fine and prefer the classicness of actually havign Levis. These bad-boys are about 6 or 7 months old. I just washed them for the first time nad the fades are startign to come in, but they are so overdyed and the fabric is so thick they will need a lot more work than my nudies ever did.
A good place to buy dry denim online I find is cultizm.com. I ordered from there and my order came to my door in under 24 hours from Singapore!! incredible. There only problem is they are limited on brands. All they have is Levis, Lees, Nudies, Sugarcanes, and Wranglers.
What dry denim are you sporting?
Edit: I know superfuture has a serious hate on for diesels, but I think some of their stuff is actually quite hight quality and they are not nearly as gaudie as energie or true religion. They also have a ton of different styles, fits, and washes to fit just about any purpose.

Argh, I can't handle wearing tight jeans which is why I never buy the higher-end brands like D&G or Boss... they come way, WAYYY too tight.

Right now i'm on the 4th month with some nudie slim jims which are my second pair. I also bought a pair of regular levis 501 STF in the states just to see what kind of fades i could get with them. I've also got a pair of skulls in my closet that i haven't started wearin yet.
Edit: Are you in on any of the sufu denim contests. I'm defenitly gonna get a pair of the next ones
The greycasts of yours must have some crazy fading after 20 months. And yeah I agree that diesel are pretty decent quality jeans but there a little to "euro" for me. And yeah dry denim does work best when tight but you can still wear a more relaxed fit and get good results it just takes more time.

Speaking of gay, I think we need a certain CP poster in here. I'd take his opinion on jeans over most of the guys in here

Yeah I dont know about the contests... I guess it's kind of fun, but wearing dry denim and getting nice fades is all about chilling out for me.
I'm not a big fan of purposely trying to put fade into my jeans. I've seen people go as far as sandpaper and staples, seems a bit counterproductive to me. Why not just buy a prewashed pair then.
The greycasts do have some pretty good fades, but the denim started to where through before they got complete. So I had to stop wearing them fulltime after about 12 months. They are more or less semi-retired. They are tight, but fit super comfortable though. Perfectly molded for me.

True Religions are quite possibly the best fitting jeans in the world. If you want a pair of very nice jeans expect to spend over $200. You might regret it immediately, but you won't after you wear them a few times. If you want to cut that price in half I recommend Paper Denims or Jack and Jones. They have the designer look and feel with about 1/2 to 1/3 of the price of True Religions or 7's.
I derive a lot of my confidence from the clothes I wear. You have to buy things that make you feel good. At the same time you want to live with in your means, but there is a difference between buying that $200,000 BMW to feel good and a $300 pair of jeans. I have a $20 Joe zip up from Superstore that rock out just as much as my $400 Lacoste zip up. It is all about what you like. You have to set a price before you head out, your ceiling. Then you don't look at price tags, you just go with what feels good. If that means you get 10 pairs or 2 pairs for your ceiling, whatever. You did what you wanted to do and that is all that matters.

Good post. Even tho i hate true religion i would never bash anyone for wearing them. And yeah when i'm buying clothing price is one of the last things i'm considering tho i tend to not spend money on t-shirts. Most of my t-shirts are from H&M and American apparel and cost me like 8-20$ each and aren't full of the companies logo. The only things lately that i've been spending money on is denim, shoes and my peacoat.

Most of the guys in the sufu contest are like you. Their jeans just reflect there lives. As far a people using sandpaper and staples that's just stupid and your probably better of going out and buying a pair of prewash jeans.
What cut of nudie do you have?

Geez I know so little about jeans... I like some of the dry denim jeans, but still don't understand what they're all about. So you say you just wear them as much as possible and they get better with age but you never wash them? Or else what happens?

Basically yeah, i've been wearing one pair i have now for 4 months, everyday. They don't stink cause I air em out everyday. First you set creases and then over time they begin to fade. Not washing them really depends on how well they are dyed. There's guys who wash em every month and they still look good. Nudie tells you not to wash for 6 months, which for their jeans is probably a good rules seeing how they tend to loose alot of indigo. I dunno just go on www.superfuture.com and go into the denim forum and read around a bit. Don't post little questions that someone new to dry denim would ask as there is alot of "denimheads" that will absolutley ream you out about it. The search function is your friend.
Edit: If you wanna wear dry denim maybe pm me some measurements of your favorite fitting jeans, different styles you like, price range your looking at, etc and i'll throw you a few suggestions.

Its the regular ralf. I prefer either a straight leg or a slight bootcut. I work out a lot and have decently sized upper legs so tapered and skinny type jeans just look horrible on me. I think my next pair of dry denim will either have to be a dry black or grey jean. Any recommendations?
Personally I'm not a big fan of true religions. Maybe one problem I have w/ them is taht they only come in really long inseams. I'm only 5'8 so I need a 32inch inseam. The true measurements on the True Religion are always like 36+ it seams like. Also not a big fan of the flair on them. Or the branding on the back pocket. I find it a little obnoxious, basically telling everyone in the room you are wearing true religion jeans.
Like I said before, if I'm gonna go prewash I'll go for diesel.

The store I mentioned earlier sells dry denim. Mainly Earnest sewn, but also gets other brands.
I wouldn't recommend dry denim to someone just getting into higher end jeans. they can be pretty complicated, and if you're used to wearing standard levi's or GAP jeans, many won't realize why the hassel.
There is also the need the size down on many brands, due to stretching.
I'm a lurker on superfuture... I agree there are many people who take their jeans/clothing real seriously.
For a decent brand of jeans for someone just getting into higher end jeans. I would recommend Mavi. they're not too expensive (usually around $100), are decent quality, and arent too flashy as some higher end jeans can be (read: pocket details, fades etc)

I love Sevens, I find True Religions ugly as hell and RandRs overrated, it's just a matter of trying on a pair that look and feel good on you.

I like Seven's too! That is all i am wearing right now. From Ed Williams Mens Wear in Crowfoot. And when you are spending $200+ on a pair if jeans they hem them for you! So the guy complaining about inseems shouldn't have to worry.... and you can't tell they have been hemmed either so no worries!
I have the opposite problem, being tall (just over 6'3) with a lean midsection (34 inch) and need every inseem-inch i can get. When i had a 36 waist it was not problem but since loosing the 2 inches the legs all seem to have shrunk 4 inches on everything but the nicest jeans. The nicest jeans usually come in really long legs because they expect the fine mens wear store you buy them at to hem them for you! lol...
And i like Agave's too if i am doing it with a nice dress shirt and blazer, in the right cut though of course.

Yes inseams can be hemmed, but depending on the cut and wash it can throw things off. Hemming a 36 jean to a 32 often destroys the overall cut by getting rid of any boot cut at the bottom. Also can make it look like knee distressing is at your ankles. In the states they seem to have inseams sizes 30-36+, but here all we have is 34.... kind of ridiculous

Haha yeah hemming can be a problem if your wearing a bootcut or a prewash jean. And yeah blankall on your next pair of raws maybe go with a 34 inch inseam and get some stacking going on. I'm only an inch taller than you and wear a 34 inseam. And with denim recomendations uhhh black is really hard to see any progress on and i don't know to many grey jeans. If you wanna go with normal indigo maybe a sugarcane 1947 or something from samurai or SDA. I dunno if you really wanna be shrinking em in your bathtub tho.

As far as I can tell, the sugarcane and samurai are essentially the same jean as the LVC 1947 in terms of cut, w/ disputed differences to quality. The LVCs I currently have are a 34 (although they did shrink to a 33) and have some descent stacking. Yes I did shrink them in my bathtub... i rent in a really crappy place, so wasnt to worried about getting die on the already messed up tub. These jeans had a ton of die too. I accidentally shook them while they were soaking and it got die all over the leather patch. Fortunately there was more than enough indigo to spare. I've washed them once since I bought them too, and they are now the best fitting pair of jeans I have ever had. Really happy w/ them
Maybe your right, if I wanna throw a grey or black jean in my mix the best alternative might be just prewash. I hear good things about the skulls, although I'll probably have to try a pair on before buying... which means no online discount.

Yeah it's hard to recomend a relaxed fit since most of the japanese brands base their relaxed fit off a 47 levis cut. And yeah can' wait to wear my skulls but i'm gonna wait until till i'm done school and can actually wear jeans everyday. I've herd their good but can fall apart if you wear em hard. But the guys over at skull jeans, like nudie, will send you the tread the use and a patch of denim to do repairs. And where the hell would you buy skulls and try them on first?
