I don't know about anyone else, but I thought it would have been established on here already that I'm not right in the head

Nor am I, however we share varying philosophies.
Germs in the drinking glass, alcohol will kill it
Germs on the remote, the alcohol that I spill on it from being a text-book hand-talker will kill it
Germs on the pillow, the alcohol that I sweat out of my head, from being hammered on the road, will kill it.
Lastly the Germs from the chick working the front desk, the spermicide on the condom will take care of.
Germ problem solved.

Lol good first point, but you do know that 5 (any) second rule is pure BS right? Germs, bacteria, dirt etc. will move immediately.
I would like to agree with those that questioned this as news though. I mean, with domestic spying and corporate offenses, what we should all be worried about is dirty glasses in hotels.

This doesn't bother me as much as it should, I think. Mainly because I've watched fellow friends who were kept in bio-isolation by their paranoid mothers turn in to athematic, allergenic messes who can't walk down the street without suffering from some life threatening conditition. Exposure to nasty stuff can have positive effects on the body. Really, it's the same idea that is behind the flu shot and other vaccinations.
That said... won't be drinking out of one of those glasses again. Eew.

Not necessarily, as long as the surface is dry, germs don't swarm your food in an instant. There was a study released at the University of Illinois a while back to support the notion that picking up food off the floor after a few seconds is generally safe.

I just assumed everyone washed a glass from a hotel room before drinking out of it. Maybe that's just me.
As for exposure to germs...it is very healthy to be exposed to germs when growing up. More and more studies are showing that children from households that were kept very clean have weaker immune systems and increased problems with allergies etc.

The worst scam to date has to be "Air purification systems". What a joke. All the sudden the same air we've been breathing in for thousands of years needs to go though a machine? I dunno about everyone else's houses...But mine definitely isn't air tight anyways. Yet another product companies have created an artificial need for. Also see: Bottled water.

Ha. My own pillow case. Genius! Dunno why I didn't think of this.
In my case I'm not worried about getting sick. I just don't enjoy other people's filth. I'm protecting my mental state (what's left of it) more than my phsyical one.

While I don't necessarily disagree, there are a lot of things in the air these days than there were "thousands of years" ago. Ie. asbestos and other particles from construction materials...Co2 and smog-related elements....cooties...

Or, you can just bring your own pillow case and use that instead of a T-Shirt...

As someone with Asthma I can tell you I had never slept as well in my life as I have the past couple of years since I put an air purifier in the bedroom.
