You have to wonder who would get plates with these images:

They should get RBK EDGE to design the plates. They could form fit to all individual cars, and have them repel muddy water.
This technology would completely change the way we drive.

Boobs. I got that part.
I meant why bother with this whole thing? It seems like an inane waste of time and money.
When the province has bigger problems at hand and they decide to allocate time and resources to the beautification of license plates it illustrates a fairly clear problem.

Sorry, thought you replied to me.
But yes, not a great, effective thing for a government to do when we need 4 car stations, overpasses, buses, police, schools, firemen, hospitals and so on.

Good to see Stelmach really prioritizing issues in the province. I bet he was up all night thinking of this one.
Leave the plates alone. If we're "running out of numbers" either (a) eliminate the space in the middle or (b) eliminate the letters before numbers requirement.
Also, dont have plates on the front a waste of money, just like the redesigning of the original plates. All Canadian provinces are plain and California is about as plain as they come. I think Steady Eddie can concentrate on other things... like not driving his party directly into the ground.

My Favorite Plate number is MWMWMWM, that my old company truck had on them.
My second favorite is WMWMWMW that the company van had.
As for the front plate, I dont care one way or another. I dont see why anyone makes a big deal about it. It is 4 more screws whenever you change your plates.

Well, we need new plates, that's a given, since our current numbers are nearly all exhausted.
So why not take the opportunity to make the new plates a bit nicer while you're at it? Not a big additional cost in the grand scheme of things. Also, making the plates look nicer does reflect back on to the image of the province in a way, in the same manner that we all (well most of us anyway) represent ourselves to the outside world.

Because its an additional unnecessary cost on top of other additional unnecessary costs.
Thats called compounding a mistake, or adding insult to injury.
In a way you're also right. Why make a big deal about it? Why make a big deal about the design of license plates at all?
Fix something important instead. Hell, its what you were elected to do anyways, might as well get to it.

A very simple fix. Leave all current plates the way they are and start by using 7 letter and number combinations instead of 6 and dont have the license plate start with letters only, ie. AAA-111.
In the US they offer custom plates for universities, veterans, etc... if you want to have one of those for an extra expense, Im all for it. But making them "prettier" should be low on the totem pole of issues.

How much do you guys wanna bet that Farmer Ed is gonna spend $15 million on a private design firm to come out with a new Alberta "brand" to use on the new plates?
And the front plates is just another cash cow as someone mentioned earlier.
Just one more stake thru the PC's heart. Pity the fools who voted for him in the leadership race.

If we're redesigning plates to look like Manitoba's... I think that's a bigger waste of money. Going from plain (like Ontario, BC, Sask.) to plain with trees and a river is not worth the expense.
The one in California is plain. It has California scripted on the top and the numbers/letters. That's it. The one you posted is a custom plate that can be purchased for an extra $25-$50. They also make them custom for all the universities, for the SPCA, war vets and other causes.
Have the standard plates that we have now. If someone wants to spend $50 to get a pretty plate, fine. But to make it an overhaul is ridiculous.

There will be those that will gladly pay the $60 bucks. Make it an optional thing so both groups of people (those that want a new look v. those that dont care/resist) are happy. But to mandate it. *ugh*
I agree with Incinerator... those that voted for Steady Eddie need to hang their heads low.

How can we possibly be out of combinations???
3 letters and 3 numbers gives 17,576,000 combinations...
Waste of time and money in my opinion!

Because they don't recycle licence plate numbers ( at least as far as I know ).
