I agree with the shaving in the shower concept. Cept I don't touch the standard shaving creme stuff (Gillette, etc). Do your self a favor and head over to Lush (that store your girl loves) and buy a bottle of Ambrosia. It's liquid gold.
Also, don't shave against the grain. Sure fire way to give yourself razor burn.

I've had a pretty thick beard since I was 16 (a gift and a curse :P ) and with great facial hair comes great responsibility so I feel I must share.
I used to use those cheap mirrors with suctions on them (putting shaving cream on them is a decent anti-fog) but have since scrapped it and go by feel. I do a quick spot check when I get it out just in case.
I think the blades last longer because a shower produces more steam and opens up your pores, keeping the skin and hair softer, making less work for your razor. I'll bet if you shaved after a sauna the hair would come off like buttah.

I only use my electric for when I want to be clean shaven. When I have the goatee or full beard, I use the razors, or when I want a really close clean shave. I find that the electric is much easier on my skin if I use it consistently (i.e., using it everyday or every second day).

from Wikipedia:
The earliest razors known are from the Bronze Age. They were made of bronze and had an oval shape.
And they damn sure weren't electric!

I don't think it's necessary to bring up the topic about the Bodygroom again.

I shave every second day, neck to top of the head save for a goatee, so Mach 3's are the only way to go. I have a thick beard, luckily I'm light haired, so an electric razor is out of the question, even with my thinning hair on top.

A good electric razor is worth its weight in gold. One thing to note is when switching it will take your skin maybe a week or two to adjust before you start to feel like your getting a really close shave.

After I get out I just take a peek in the mirror and make sure that I got everything...then use the electric to hit those spots.

Yeah shaving in the shower's beauty, I used to always do that. I had a mirror in there but it would fog up in two seconds, so I just did it by touch. Generally I'd end up missing a couple small parts, but nothing you can't fix up when you get out of the shower and take a gander in the mirror.
Man do I miss doing that, I haven't been able to do it since I moved two years ago. My current hot water heater is the biggest POS ever, its seriously a race every day to get in and out before it goes cold, so I can't spend any more time in there than I absolutely need to.

Oh have you used em? I havent, I just came across it one day. I'm not near at that point yet, but my family history dictates I will be someday(as my suddenly not so poofy hair lately seems to be agreeing with), and I was gonna be all over these when that day does arrive. Good to know.

I second this recommendation, however for those with heavier beards, their Razorantium creme may be a better choice.
