A new trade has just been reported by ESPN.

"Orioles send shortstop Tejada to Houston for 5 players"
The Astro's are putting together a much more competitive team that they had last season. I'm excited!

They've got a very, very long way to go with assembling their pitching staff if they want to be competitive. Oswalt and...?

They still are the fourth best team in the division and adding a roid-less Tejada isn't going to be enough to put them over the teams in front of them.

They didn't have to give up all that much but Tejada is not the guy he was 3-5 years ago.

Oh absolutely! That's a tough division and their pitching is no where near what it was even a couple years ago. But with Berkman and Lee, if Tejada just steps up and delivers and quality bat like has has the last couple of seasons he's a major upgrade on Everett. Their batting orders is looking very scary...but you're right they do need to go out and grab some help for Oswalt, and I'm not sure what they plan to do about their closer.

The thing is, I'm not sure if it is all that much of a major upgrade, Adam Everett is also the best - hands down the best SS defensively in MLB. The difference between him/Tejada is likely 30 runs defensively over the course of a season.

It is an upgrade nonetheless.

Looks like Towers is a FA now, Jays decline to extend his contract.

The Toronto Blue Jays have declined to tender a contract to Josh Towers for the 2008 season making the right-handed pitcher a free agent.

Yep, the Giants have pulled Cain and Lincecum off the market. Assuming the Jays don't manage to snag another pitcher, I'd be happy with this as the starting rotation heading into next year:

Halladay
Burnett
McGowan
Marcum
Chacin/Janssen

If Chacin doesn't work out, the Jays can always move Janssen back into the starting rotation. Ryan should be healthy this season which means Accardo would be bumped back to setup man and thus Janssen could potentially make the transition back to the rotation. He has the stuff to be a very good starter in this league and he finally has an out pitch now with his changeup.

Injury prone pitcher Mark Prior has not been offered a contract by the Cubs. Definatley a high risk, high reward guy, someone I wouldnt mind the Jays inquiring about, dependent on the price of course.

I think they went that way with AJ Burnett and I wouldn't exactly call it a success (it hasn't been a disaster either). I think one injury prone pitcher in the starting lineup should suffice.

I've had a list of names emailed to me from a friend who has some ties to a MLB team - I have no way of knowing how accurate it is, more than likely it's just BS but there are some interesting names on the list if it is at all accurate.

A report on TSN that ESPN has learned that Roger Clemens will be on the list. Can't say I'm surprised by it.

Looks like WNBC is now reporting on the same list of players I've seen. xxx is the biggest name I've read - apart from Clemons. The list of players they have is the exact same as the e-mail I received so take this report with skepticsm.
