Damn straight, what have we ever done to them right.... it isn't like we tried to kill them with disease, killed their food, took away all their land and put them on little patches of land, discriminated agaisnt them, took them away from their famlies, attempted to starve them, tried to eliminate their culture, or have done anything like that right kipperfan?

Native issues is and area you do not want to go into guys. I found out the hard way on another site, which I haven't visited since. You say one thing that gets taken the wrong way in the world today and they are jumping all over you, labelling you a racist.

I don't know what I am talking about when it comes to natives being descriminated against. Your the guy who just tried to paint them all with the broad brush of being lazy and sitting on their ass all day. It seems as if you don't understand as why reperation payments have been made, and rightfully so.

I simple made an off the cuff remark, and you chose to rant on about nothing, with every post you look worse, making up an argument with yourself.

You stated " i think you have Sweden, mistaken with "native indian reservations"" in responce to this comment " I thought they paid you to sit on your ass in Sweden?"
Now it seems to me as though you are stating that everyone on a reserve is just getting money for sitting on their ass. That could be me misinterpriting your words, but it appears to me as though you are stating that you feel as though the aboriginals on the reserves are getting money which they don't really deserve, as all they are doing is sitting on their ass.

no. Im stating some natives on many reservations, get paid to stay on reservations. I didnt support or ridicule these people, I simple immplied that they do exist(and they do) and that "native reserves" would be a much better example of a socialist society at work than sweden.

As entertaining as yet ANOTHER petty squabble on CalgaryPuck ISN'T for me, let's get back to the topic...I am a minor deity by profession, currently a student at the U of C as well in case that doesn't work out for me.
I like Pina Coladas and getting caught in the rain. I'm not much into yoga, and I have half a brain. I like making love at midnight, in the dunes of the cape. I'm the one that you've looked for. Write to me and escape.

Yes I like pina coladas
And getting caught in the rain
I'm not much into health food
I am into champagne
I've got to meet you by tomorrow noon
And cut through all this red tape
At a bar called O'Malleys
Where we'll plan our escape

Thanks for putting that Jimmy Buffett song in my head. Wait that isn't Jimmy is it?

Well the version I have says Jimmy Buffett. I've seen places saying Rupert Holmes, though. Maybe Buffett did a cover?

So Maxwell why don't you educate us as to why the natives should get "handouts" for occurances 50-400 years ago. I realize discrimination still exists today but we don't give out reparation payments to African Americans, Orientals, etc.etc. So why do these up and coming natives deserve this "handout". I 100% agree that reparation payments should be made to those people/families that were affected directly but i also believe this should have been a one time payment. Why should my brother in law (who is something like 1/10 native) receive his schooling/home expenses while at school for free? He has not been affected at all by the discrimination, etc.etc. In the mean time i have to work 30 hours a week and go to school full time plus pay off a student loan at the end of it. Is that Fair? Schooling is just one issue but there are many perks to being native. I have no problem with these people taking this if the government is foolish enough to keep giving, hell I'd love an education on the governments tab (which I realize everyone would pay for through the taxes they pay yearly). I have several native friends, and a brother in law, and the majority of them feel the same way. Please enlighten me Maxwell.

You guys talk like getting handouts is a good thing. It is obviously a bad thing as history has shown. Look at Paris Hilton. In all the reparations, which were mostly deserving we actually made the problem worse.
|
ok in all fairness Paris Hilton is a bad example. If it wasn't for those handouts who would 13 yr old boys get to watch on the internet? Now that Pamela Anderson is out of the picture SOMONE needs to fill that void.

I think there may be a few other "ladys" that would be happy to provide those services to young boys everywhere.......................they are affectionatley known as "net **'s", and tend to pop up in pretty much every internet search you do.

I'm a lawyer that works on the negotiating team of a big budget players association. I sit on my arse all day, wait for the phone to ring, and come up with petty insults to hurl at the managerial side while looking at porn on the internet.
