Maybe we should also mention the U of C bars:
Max's Cafe.
The Den.
I know The Den is still around, but anyone who frequented the old Den knows that The Den no longer exists.

Dinny's! Showed up there the fall after I graduated high school. Got someone else's id. The picture was so dark and faded, it could have been anyone. 17 years young, what a great week that was.

Old Scotch, where Al MacInnes allegedly punted a patron back in '89.

The Embassy. Started on the roof, ended in the basement every Friday.
The Palace. Don't miss this place but it was cheep on student nights.
The real Den. Drank right out of the jug. Some of the funniest things I have ever seen happened at the Den.
Java Sharks. Great bands and a bartender that ate glass.
Three Cheers. Fire trap if it wasn't soaked in urine and vomit.

No one has said the Republik yet?
Did Curly's NW become Yucatans or were they two separate places?
Billy McIntyre's, north and south. The north one is now the Kilkenny in Brentwood, and the south is now the Keg on Macleod.
If I remember correctly, Paul Reinhart was one of the original investors in III Cheers.

There was Curly's in the NW, it was along Crowchild by Motel Village across from McMahon.
In University, I did a pub crawl where you were in teams and each team was given a list of clues that told you which bars to go to. One of the clues was "Arctic pubic hair", which we figured out was Curly's North. We went to the northeast one in Sunridge but were supposed to go to the NW one.

Remember how easy fake ID was? or how easy it was to get ALCB cards?

The Embassy was a favourite of mine - Friday was 80s night and they had a great setup. 80s pop in the main floor. Old school disco/funk in the basement. Great rooftop patio too.
Also used to hit "Botany's" in the Radisson Hotel on 16th Ave but that place was a total dive.
Used to shoot pool at Diesel's above the Vicious Circle. Now its an office space.

Wasn't Yucatan's just an old "Mother's Pizza" before?

Grapes, next to the Longhorn Saloon, where the current Chapters is on MacLeod by the Brick.
I remember CTV had a camera in the Longhorn during the 1988 Olympic Hockey. I distinctly remember the late Dan Kelly who was doing commentary, after yet another goal against Canada "The boys at the Longhorn don't look to happy about that one"
Of course the Republic...75c highballs Thursday and Saturday before 10. Many a time I was there with my buddies at 8pm on a Saturday. Then onto 3 Cheers after 10.

Ahh Three Cheers and Fox and Firkin are my two favorite bars of all-time! So many memories in the early 90s. Billy Mac's and Yucatan's by the UofC were also some good places.
On Electric Ave, don't forget the Shark Club and who could forget.Stinky's, Canada Best Sports Bar one year. There was a bar at the Radisson whose name escapes me. Smilies perhaps?
The dive strip club downtown just of the C-Train station at the Bay is on the tip of my tongue as well. I guess those brain cells have long since perished.
Also for the fans of the old Dinnies Den, do you remember the blond waitress there who I affectionate dubbed the pornstar. She really had that look. $5 Jugs of Labatt's blue, pissing in the corners because you just couldn't get through the crowd to the washrooms was classic!

Calgary could use another electric avenue again with the current growth and how crappy the nightlife is in terms of proportion to population and diversity.

I agree. From what I've heard/the comments here, it seems that clubs "back in the day" were far better than the crap for clubs here now.
