I work upstairs from it. I'm not sure how it's still in business, to be honest.

Well, if saying that "I hope the place gets destroyed by a giant meteor" makes me bitter, then dammit, I'm bitter.
So, what redeeming value does the place have for you that you love it so much? A couple of big movie screens that play the same damn movies as everywhere else.

I'm not sure that everyone "loves it", but you sure seem to have an ax to grind. Why the hate? If you don't like it, stay away from it.

You're missing the bright side of this... It congregates women into one place, meaning you should be able to head to the mall and get at least one phone number in under an hour!

When I worked in Chinook a year or so ago I talked to the manager there and the rumour I was told that was going on was that they were going to add that one level and apparently they were going to try and expand further down from Sears, and another 'big thing' was that the walk from Chinook Station to Chinook would apparently be through a tunnel... I really dont know where they are with this now but that was one of the big things that are suppose to be happening in the next few years.

Perfect place to start my career as a professional mugger.
Tunnels a dumb idea. Monorail is the way to go.

Not to mention scary. Could you image the riff-raff that would congregate there?
I think it's a good thing anyways. With all the money coming into Calgary, it's likely the stores that will be added will be higher end. It's about time a city with so much money to spend had designer stores. (Not that I can afford to shop in them, but it's nice the option is there for people with the money to spend.) Would I want to be within 10 kms of Chinook at Christmas? Not on your life. But I'm glad it's expanding for those who like to be there.

They said on the radio another pedestrian overpass by 58th, not a tunnel. And they are expanding over by the Shell. I dont think they are adding another level.

I would really like to see a tunnel there. Just have it well lit and have the flat escalators like at the airport. Just close it within an hour of the mall open and closing.

Didn't they already have a pedestrian tunnel underneath Maclleod connecting Chinook to the Home Depot parking lot? I'm pretty sure there was one there and open, but it was shut down because... you know... tunnels attract creeps and rapes. Same reason the tunnels at the U of C were shut down.

They have one just north of glenmore to allow you to get to either the east (home depot side) or west (chinook side) sides of macleod trail. It's still opened...I used it last week....but damn it's scary

I walked through that tunnel everyday for a year to get to the CTrain when I lived in the area. The only thing scary about it was the smell of piss.

I walked through it on Saturday afternoon, and the piss smell was pretty bad.

From what i understand there are two seperate expansion plans.
1) The first, and the one i believe people are refering to here, is the intent to building out into the parking lot area east of Sears. This has already been approved, stores are already lining up for space and it is starting asap (if not already).
2) The second expansion involved some talk about (re-)opening the second level past SportChek all the way to the Theatre. The Bay would lose some space on their second level that they could make up for with a small expansion to the West (much like the just did at Market Mall) and then the mall would allow for a better flow of traffic, allowing some of the interior cross-mall traffic on the main level to use the upper level more efficiently.
The first expansion is the major one that is about to start. The second is likely to happen but not until the first one is done - 2-3 years out minimum.
In either case, i much prefer having all these stores at Chinook where it is close to an LRT station and downtown than the montrosity they are trying to build out in Balzac.
Claeren.

Try the plus size stores, I couldn't find any women's clothing that fit until I wandered into one of those. You get a few odd looks from the clerks and patrons, but as long as you don't insist on using the change rooms they have no idea you're actually buying them for yourself, and if they don't fit you can always bring them back and claim, "she didn't like the colour".

As for the tunnel talk, yeah, boo... I believe agamemnon hit the nail on the head with "rapes and creeps".
But expansion... I loves it. Build my city! Build it citius altius fortus! (did I get that right?)
Monstrosity in Balzac? You do realize that when Chinook was first built, it was considered a monstrosity out in Midnapore.
The 'Monstrosity in Balzac' is merely real estate speculation at it's finest. ONWARD, Calgary!
