I watched it last night. I thought it was excellent! My girlfriend pointed out while we were waiting in the ridiculously long lineup "hey look, everyone here looks the same age as you!" Thought that was kinda funny, and so true. All the 80's kids will be turning out in droves to boost the box office sales (and all the new little transformer fans of course) of this movie. In fact probably a high percentage of people posting in this very thread fall within the 26-30 year old demographic.

Anybody wanna guess when Transformers 2 will be released? I'm thinking summer of 2009. No doubt this will turn out to be a trilogy as well. The merchandising profits for this movie will be insane! Maybe even exceed the recent Star Wars movies merchandise...

alright, nerd-gasm time.
SPOILER WARNING
I didn't expect Prime to say those immortal dialogues he did in the cartoons, but man, it totally blew me away when he did.
"One shall stand and one shall fall"
"Autobots! Roll out!!"
I'm sure there are others, but man, was I ever happy to hear him say those words.
Also, I think there are 3 decepticons that survived. Though I might be wrong.
- Starscream for one (did anyone notice how Starscream joined the F-22 squardron on the assault on Megatron? That was awesome!)
- Scorpionok (and we have yet to see his tranformation)
- Barricade (I don't think it was conclusive that Bumblebee killed him)

"Freedom is the right of all sentient beings."
^^ from the Transformers Universe comics. I loved that one too.
I don't think Blackout (the helicopter) died. And if Megatron is dead for good, there's no good reason to have a sequel.
That scene with Starscream attacking the military planes over the city was one of the most incredible movie scenes I can recall... for once, Starscream was a badass.

Agreed, that scene blew me away! I love how Starscream is such a suckup when in front of Megatron.
Starscream: "I live to serve you, Megatron."
Megatron: "Starscream, you FAILED me again"

I'm am truly satisfied by this movie. I love when Megatron dethawed, he threw out the classic "I am Megatron..."
And yes the writing was cheesy, but somehow it seemed to go incredibly well.
Anyway my childhood idolization of Optimus Prime has been rekindled. AUTOBOTS, ROLL OUT.

I loved the movie. Was a great watch.
Maybe I'm not so picky as you guys since I'm not into the current day transformers much or really watched any of the original.

It's a GREAT Summer Action Flick. Don't go in thinking the Dialogue is going to change your life, but the movie is top notch when it comes to Action, CGI, Fighting, and coolness.
GREAT MOVIE!!!

Hey, I just realized something while reading wikipedia
http://transformers.wikia.com/wiki/Unicron
Before the dawn of time, Order and Chaos existed within an extradimensional entity known as the One. He created twin astral beings to reign over the cosmos: Primus and Unicron. Their nature differed, as Primus' lifeforce (aka the Allspark) was a multiversal singularity; existing across all Transformers realities at once (see note below), whereas Unicron existed in only one dimension at a time but could travel relatively freely between them. Primus was the Lord of Light and Order, and Unicron, the Lord of Darkness and Chaos. Unicron sought to devour everything that exists and become one with The Void at the end of all things.
So if Primus' life force was the Allspark, which we already saw in the movie. Then there's a very good chance that Transformers 2 will feature Unicron?

That's the comics continuity which is vastly different from the original cartoon continuity and in fact, all the other continuities. I don't know if they will base the movie continuity on this theme.

Meh, guess I'm in the minority on this one, but I didn't think it was that hot of a movie. Once you saw one transformer change you pretty much saw them all do it... it was hard to be impressed by Optimus trasnforming at the end (like they played it up as if it was huge) when I'd seen it in the movie a dozen times already.
The action scenes were ridiculously blurry... most of the time when the tranformers fought each other I just saw a blur of colour and metal... kind of reminded me of the crappy camera work on the Bourne Ultimatum.
They didn't develop any of the individual transformers much outside of Bumblebee... Megatron's lack of role and the easy way he was defeated sucked. He was supposed to be a gun but somehow became a plane...
I don't know... I had pretty high expectations I guess, and it certainly didn't meet them. I'll rate it at about 5 yawns an hour... only worth seeing if you know you'll like it before you watch it, imo.

I dunno, Megatron as a gun would have been lame. Yes, it would have been true to the cartoon, but come on, that would have been lame. I had no issue with any of things that they changed in the movie. Bumblebee is a Camaro.....big deal........Jazz was a Solstice.....meh....stuff like that didn't bother me at all. The cartoon was 20 years ago, changes should be expected.

He could have been a modern howitzer or something, that would be pretty crazy... they wouldn't have to make him a giant handgun. I also thought the Bumblebee character was better as the older Camaro... seemed to 'sell out' when he took the new body... just my opinion though, I don't know Bumblebee that well...

Megatron's original form from Cybertron is an alien jet. Based on the movie's timeline, he crashed on to earth before any civilization was present. This makes sense, since Megatron was freed halfway through the movie and didn't bother to take on a form of an earth object.

Sure... I wasn't peeved that the movie wasn't true to Megatron so much as just thought it was plain boring/bad. I guess I thought he should be a gun because that's what I vaguely recall from the cartoons, I'm certainly no Transformers timeline expert.
