I told my wife she should learn to cut hair too. I get about 4-5 haircuts a year x 22 bucks a pop x another 40 years. That's $4400 without interest and inflation. Put that into a RRSP and I could retire a year early. My hair might not look like a $75 cut, but who cares, I where a hat anyway.

I recently switched from the salon hairdresser I've been going to for years to a small, inexpensive barber shop. Quality of my haircut may have gone down slightly, but the quality of my beard trim has gone up significantly. I guess I'm getting to the point where I don't have enough hair on top of my head to really justify $45 on it, and I would rather budget for cheap but frequent trims.

This simple post has erupted into an impressively large discussion of barbers.

In the "$89,000+ income" thread, it seems theres a significant portion of posters indicating they are earning in the top 5% range yet it seems a significant part of this board is averse to paying more than $15 for a hair cut.

(Its not 1985 anymore. $15 doesnt go very far these days especially in Calgary. $15 is near the average wage for retail in this town.)

A while ago I was asking a quite wealthy friend of mine why she was complaining about something (forgot what it was, it was trivial) being so expensive given her financial status, her response?

"Rich people are cheap, that's how they got rich in the first place"

So there ya go.

I just got my hair cut on the weekend. $13

And while I was in the chair I noticed his straight razor, and he said yes, he still does shaves with the hot towels, hot foam and straight razor. I neglected to ask the price of that service.

Agreed - price is about 28 after tip. The razor shave is also nice, althought not always needed.
