The terrorists have won.
With 9/11 Osama bin Laden wanted America to experience the fear and hardship he felt was the lot of Islamic people in the middle east. Living in a police state, and never knowing when you were going to be attacked, and helpless to prevent it.
Thanks to the paranoia of America, there is no longer habeus corpus, hence there is no longer the rule of law. People can (and do) disappear off the street, and are held in prison without trial, or hope of release. Security forces are able to incite panic on the basis of a child playing a game. This is the equivalent of the Aqua Teen Lightbrite “bomb” scare that threw the police into a tizzy. No substance, and tons of fear.
(for the record – the Virginia shooter didn’t play video games according to his
roommates)
Welcome to 1984 – Emmanual Goldstein is everywhere. The freedom of a nation has been sacrificed for ignorance, xenophobia, and the empty perception of safety.
I hate how stupid our society has become. What happened to critical thinking people?
Who is the bigger danger? The kid with the handgun, or the kid with the computer? I know which one I wouldn't be sending my child to play with.
For shame.

Might look good on a resume.

Very well put. Sums up how paranoid society has become in the past few years.
And just for the record, some of the schools I've been in would make GREAT maps for a FPS game. Good lighting, walls, ramps, and balconies all in the right places for good cover. I'm surprised more maps haven't been made based off of school designs.
I wonder: if someone made a map based off an office building would there be the same reaction?

I hope they let this kid back into his school so he can graduate and all that, but the sad thing is that kids today just don't appreciate history, and not one of them will think to call him MC Hammer.

We need a picture of him in parachute pants eating KFC Popcorn chicken.

For our 4th year project in University, we had to come up with a design for a water treatment plant. For our final presentation, we used Counter Strike to create a 3-D model of our plant.
I hope my team gets arrested for our insolence.

I agree. I remember wanting to play a game of paint ball in my high school (Beaverbrook). I always thought it would be a blast. Interesting layout with dead ends, choke points, mezzanines and it was huge.

Isn't that what a vast majority of the news reporting media has become? Really, it is sad.
I am not sure if it is because I am getting older and more sensitive to it, or if it has really become as bad as it seems. Regardless, it has really been bothering me lately how ' news' doesn't seem to be news anymore, but rather media propogating some sort of alterior message. Often, facts are missing, and those facts that are presented are twisted to support whatever viewpoint the media in question is trying to impress on the recipient. Nothing drives me more crazy than "An unnamed source" presented as fact rather than rumour.
It doesn't seem to matter what arena the media in question is from either. Our local TV news programs do it, our global news crews do it, and heck, even our sports reporters do it. To a man, every hockey reporter rants and raves about the new NHL, and the great game it has become in every way. I feel it is because they are directed by the NHL to convince, or more harshly brainwash, each and every fan into loving this new game even if some of us don't. Surely, not every reporter favors this game over the one from 5 years ago, in every aspect. I know I don't.
Well... sorry for diverging off topic. I couldn't stop myself. I can't stop myself from hitting 'Submit Reply' either.
Back on topic, most everything has been said. For the record, I feel that if there are other signs that this student was in difficulty, then by all means investigate. From a quick overview, it doesn't look like this was a person in need, but rather an innocent map maker.
