Q-League playoffs resume on this fine eve. I'm not sure if I'll be posting the regular updates the next few days or not.

I'm off to Bathurst to see games 3 & 4 of the Titan/Eagles series.

If I do have internet access I'll post breif recaps as I've been doing all through the playoffs.

Here's to two more wins in Northern New Brunswick.

stupid Bathurst, winning in stupid overtime.

Posting from Bathurst NB so this will be short. The Eagles didn't play composed in the last 30 minutes. Bathurst capitalized on their chances. Today should be different. 2-1 Eagles

Lewiston went ahead 3-0 over Halifax

Rouyn-Noranda beat Drummondville to go up 2-1

Bah. Oh well. I won't be able to make any of the games, so they must be missing me as their good luck charm .

Halifax ended Lewiston's winning streak with an overtime win last night

Val d'Or won on the road in Baie Comeau, and Drummondville also picked up a win.

In better news, Cape Breton ended an 11 game playoff losing streak in the KC Irving Regional Centre in Bathurst NB to take a 3-1 series lead on the Titan.

AWESOME GAME (I need to check out in a few so no time for much of a recap) the players were jumping out of their skin with excitement after the victory. Team motto FHTV was chanted over and over in the 3rd whenever Bathurst would press. The Titan fans sat back wondering what the acronym meant rather than think of a retort. Game 5 goes in Sydney on Friday.

Go Eagles Go

PS: No idea what FHTV means, a few rumours kicked around but the players are tight lipped, won't even tell family (atleast that's what Beau Prokopetz's father was bitching about at the game last night, haha)

Val d'Or won tonight taking a 3-1 series lead on Baie-Comeau. One more win and that's four straight for the Foreurs.

here's the updated playoff tree

Eagles knocked off Bathurst tonight. They say in order to truely win a championship you have to go through your nemesis along the way. The Colts needed to beat the Patriots to avoid any "but they would have lots to..." comments. The Eagles FINALLY beat the Titan in the playoffs. Now onto a Quebec based city for round 3 (Val d'Or).

Lewiston finished off Halifax this evening as well. Lewiston will have home ice going into round 3, and barring a huge collapse by Val d'Or will face the winner of the Rouyn-Noranda/Drummondville series. That's tied at 2, and currently 2-2 in the 2nd.

Halifax Drunk, and RedHot25 now that the Moose are out I fully expect you on the Eagles bandwagon http://dal.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2257719056&ref=mf

Go Eagles Go - FHTV

Val d'Or squeeks out a tight one in Baie-Comeau 4-3 and clinching the series

the undefeated on the road Foreurs will be up against the undefeated at home Eagles in round 3.

Rouyn-Noranda forces game 7 against Drummondville with a 3-2 vistory in Rouyn last night.

On a sad note, Jeremy Dushense goaltender for Val d'Or had his father pass yesterday at the age of 44. Hopefully everything works out for him and it doesn't effect his play, if he's able to play.

I figured with the playoff tree updated I'd give links to previews of each semi-final

Cape Breton & Val d'Or

Rouyn-Noranda & Lewiston

As much as it "pains me" to say this...go Cape Breton

Hey Scout, what would be a "good" final match up? I know you are going to say CB. But from a purely hockey series perspective, what would be a good match up? CB-Lewiston?

Lewiston should get through Rouyn-Noranda, but frankly a Lewiston-Cape Breton or Lewiston-Val d'Or series should be decent.

The best series of the playoffs should be the Cape Breton-Val d'Or series. (now with Duschene out that could mean a more determined Val d'Or team, or a severely weakened Val d'Or team). It's been said by several posters on the junior boards that the winner of the Val d'Or-Cape Breton series will be representing the QMJHL in Vancouver.

The series is on Eastlink Television (Cable Channel 10) and should be a good watch.

I'm DESPERATELY trying to find a way to Halifax this weekend (like you have no idea). *IF* I do make it, are the Halifax based CPers getting together to watch the games Saturday and possibly Sunday?

Paul McIlveen in OT wins it for Cape Breton. After falling down 2-0 in Val d'Or the Eagles stormed back to take game 1, 3-2 in OT.

Lewiston also took game 1, 4-1 over Rouyn-Noranda

Cape Breton leads 1-0
Lewiston leads 1-0

Game 2 goes tonight for each series.

Eagles will be on the Eastlink webcast, but with French announcing.

Go Eagles Go

just got back in the door from Halifax

Eagles lost to Val d'Or 4-2 so the series is now tied at one

Lewiston defeated Rouyn-Noranda 7-4 giving them a 2-0 series lead.

Had a blast over the weekend, especially at the Oasis watching the Flames game (even with the loss I think we were drunk enough to deal with the 5-1 thumping... in fact we got free beer out of it thanks to some Detroit fans)

Speaking of which, HD did I give you enough money at the end of the night?

Holy Sweet Mother of all that's good and holy in this world the next and the one before Mary Joseph the father son and holy ghost what an finish!!! Chris Culligan scored on a penalty shot in overtime to give Cape Breton a 5-4 OT win. Eagles after going up 3-0 were suddenly not allowed to play physical and were called for everything (I'm not one to complain about the referees but this was brutal). Foreurs tied the game at 3, Eagles got an odd man rush late in the 2nd to go ahead 4-3. Foreurs tied the game at 4, then OT see above. Series is now 2-1 Cape Breton.

Lewiston's leading Rouyn-Noranda 4-2 halfway through the thrid. I'm heading out so I'm just gonna assume that series is going 3-0 in favour of Lewy.

Game 4 is on Eastlink webcam, and those in Halifax if you can catch OT on the replay I'd reccomend it, overtime was some great hockey. You can see Duschene completely flip out and lose his mind after the Culligan goal.

Edit: Culligan's OT Penalty-Shot Winning Goal

Highlights of last night's game from RDS

You can hear the English play-by-play in the background, but the guys in the studio are speaking in French

Well after game 4 the Cape Breton and Val d'Or series is not tied at 2. Cape Breton came out flat and were lucky to walk out of the first with a 1-1 tie. However at the end of the first the referees got sick of Val d'Or's constant chirping, yapping, and dirty play. They gave Cape Breton a two minute 5 on 3 at the end of the first frame which tied the game as mentioned above. The second period the Eagles walked out of with a 2-1 lead, with Canadian World Junior player Brad Marchant taking a 10 minute unsportsman like penalty for shooting the puck over the glass after being called for a two minute minor.

Goals were exchanged back and forth in the third with Cape Breton sealing the 5-3 victory in an empty net giving them a 3-1 series lead. With a win on Friday they'll travel to Lewiston Maine to take on the MAINEicas who have swept the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies with a 4-3 win this evening.

If I get video highlights I'll post them when I get them

I'm somewhat dejected after an OT loss this evening. 3-2 final for Val d'Or, series heads back to Quebec for games 6 and 7. Eagles first goal shouldn't have counted so really losing in OT is only justice, but it still sucks.

Well it's that time again, game 5 is upon us.

Eagles win they're into the finals, Val d'Or wins they live to see game 7.

Nervous energy for me right now.

Game should get intense and a true battle. It's webcast on Eastlink Television

http://www.eastlink.ca/eltv/ELTV_WebCasting/webcast.ram

However the commentary will be from Val d'Or's TV station so it will be in French.

If you're interested in listening to Ken McNeil (who's no Peter Maher but who is) the radio feed is: http://english.aliant.net/asx/CJCB.asx

GO EAGLES GO
