Sorry, I forgot to adress some other points after all of that. Prenatal/genetic screening, and embryonic modifications are not as easy as some people seem to think. there is simply not enough known about many disorders to detect them by these methods, and if they can be found, there is not necessarily anything we can do about it. The cost of thse is also a factor. Yes, they are used in some situations now, but not anything nearly comprehensive. If it was easy, it would already be taking place.

I'm pretty shocked by what is being suggested in this thread....especially things like this:

Some people also seem to think that every damn genetic disease can somehow be diagnosed by some sort of magic Star Trek tricorder. Christ, doctors can't even tell for certain if an embryo has Down's Syndrome.

When discussing testing fetuses of incestious relationships becuase of the greater risk of potential birth defects, I trust that the same people who support this will support it for other similar cases - i.e.: two parents who are both diabetic, or have family history of same?
