Keep in mind that all children are different, and this applies to absolutely everything.

With our first child, we persisted SO hard on the crying it out thing and it never worked, we kept trying harder and harder. It was awful, and I mean, really really awful... She was overall a fairly colicy baby, though, and once she grew out of the colic, we were finally able to train her. With our son, it worked right away. If I were to do our daughter over again, I think I would have backed off and waited until she had outgrown the colic. (And god fobid should you have to deal with that.)

As for products, we had to return the travel system because it was too difficult to get into our trunk. Instead, we got this tiny little universal car seat stroller that weighed next to nothing and took up no space in the trunk. You could strap almost any type of car seat onto it. If you are going to have a 2nd child right away, don't blow a lot of money on a stroller now, as you'll just need a double stroller when the second child comes along.

Neither of our kids liked the Baby Bjorn. We also got next to no use out of our playpen.

So everyone knows....

Looks like Consumer Reports may have screwed up big time. They may not have accurately simulated the speeds they said they did based on info received from the National Highway Traffice Safety Association.

They have withdrawn their report.

One thing to consider, with regards to sleeping techniques, I've found, is that you need to be consistent.

Everyone involved in the sleep time routine MUST be on the same page.

Over Christmas my daughter (22 months old) was sick, and we babied her, (slept with her, coddled her) her grandmother was worst (stayed with her all night), and when we got back home and tried to go back to normal routine, it was back to square one (she normally would get story, and we could leave, she fell asleep herself).

Good luck to all.

Indeed. One grandma visit and it can throw the whole thing out of whack!

My advice is simply consistency and no props. Leaving out the props (soother, noisemaker, whatever else) may hurt in the short term but it'll hurt much more later on if they are used. (note: not all babies become "addicted" to props...some have a take 'em or leave 'em attitude).
