Wii just looks like flat out the most fun.
I can't wait to play a good golf game for it.
If I see another driving game with even more realistic looking trees and realistic looking rain then I'm going to scream.

Here's what I think... and I'm obviously biased because I bought the Wii but:
I don't really care if people think it's "kiddy" because I have a lot of fun playing it. There are a lot of games that aren't suitable for kids, and this is because many games are released across ALL THREE SYSTEMS. So really who gives a ****, because a lot of the games are available on all of them anyway!
Also, I think in some ways, Nintendo's marketing department deserves a HUGE raise. Basically, they looked at price, and undercut both the XBOX and PS, which frankly is a smart move considering how expensive each new generation keeps getting. Each generation recently has been pushing the limits, increasing price. I think this is the first time one of the major systems decided to seriously consider price in its system development.
The Nintendo apparently has a package that nerdly programmers can use, as well as people who don't have 20+ years of programming experience. This is going to facilitate creativity, and I've also heard stories that PS is difficult to create games for. I'm not sure about the relevance or truth to these things, but it could mean a greater variety of "new" idea games instead of the constant MARIO MARIO MARIO show that Nintendo constantly abuses (although I'm sure there will probably still be many Mario games, I think there will be a greater variety this system, then the gamecube).
For me, the decision was fairly easy because my gamecube actually broke down... and so when I found out about the fact that all my gamecube gear will work with a new system... well that was a great idea.
The Wii so far for me has been a lot of fun. I come home and play tennis/golf with the roommate when I have time, and you can smack talk each other's swings and whatnot. It is hilarious because its... well... different!
If you go to Nintendo's website... they basically say the thing has been a smash success, and if I recall correctly has already earned over $190 million for Nintendo... and it's only been out like 2 or 3 weeks. Apparently there has been a Wii sold approximately every second since its release, and good publicity has been a major factor in sales.

It isn't often that a company hits exactly what they were after,
what their marketting was saying. This time Nintendo did it.
Price. Fun. Different. They advertised all 3, and hit all 3.
The price is cheap because most of the stuff in the Nintendo is
"off the shelf". The processor, graphics, and even the controller is
made of stuff you can purchase in huge quantities, without fear of
shortages. That means everyone who wants one will get one.
It's fun because it's different. The idea of bowling or tennis no longer
involves just pushing buttons, rather making the motions to imitate the
game. Same in the FPS' (Zelda, Red Steel, COD3). The first time I
pointed at the screen and the crosshairs came up, I knew it was going
to be interesting. COD3 isn't my type of game, but I can see how
people could get hooked.
Yeah, yeah, you don't have to swing the "tennis racket", but with
multiplayers, you stand out as the fool if you are NOT doing it!
I am interested in how they handle hockey and basketball, should
be very interesting, football already is.
As long as Nintendo doesn't do anything stupid, like brick many machines
during an update (which happened on a very minor level), they have
probably "won" this round. They could also put out very pathetic
attempts because of their new controller. Let's hope this doesn't
happen, and they actually do allow companies to innovate.
One thing I know is that there will be a lot of junk games, as companies
come to terms with the abilities of the controller. There will be a
select few that will stand out, Zelda and Sports are already there.
I expect that the next generation will have better graphics and combine
even more functionality into the controller, perhaps through leg or
finger movements.

I need to find a contest and win one seeing as I've lost the battle for the time being with the wife to buy one. Are there any local contests out there to win one?

I have allways had Nintendo since I bought the NES when I was in junior high. I have never played a playstation 2 or an Xbox so my experience is pretty limited. But what is more fun than playing Mario Cart with three other people? Besides maybe sex with three other girls.

Why all the hate for the Wii? If you don't like it, don't buy it. There is no need to make up lies about it. If it is really as bad as you say, it wouldn't be as sucessful as it clearly is.

Just a quick hint of advice for anyone looking for a Wii - don't bother with Best Buy anymore. Just reading through people's posts on another site right now and apparently the only people who got Wii's in BB's shipment this morning camped overnight. At the Sunridge location some people camped out overnight and didn't even get a Wii. So just don't waste your time showing up a couple of hours before..
It looks like I'm probably just going to wait until after the new year to pick mine up at this rate.

I think everyone should wait till Mario Party rolls out for the Wii. It will probably be the best selling game ever for the console.

jeez dosen't anyone play PC games anymore. I can't get into the idea of spending dollars on a dedicated gaming console when I have a superpowerful computer in my house.
And I don't want to look like a dork in front of my girlfriend waving my arms around in a goofy tennis or boxing or golf type action.

Most of my gaming is still on the PC but I got tired of not being able to play the console exclusives that I've always wanted to play so I got myself a 360.

Not to mention the PC games are advancing so quickly it causes a person to constantly upgrade their computer. I like PC games as well but dang some of them are huge.

Well as you well know Flambers that unlike on a messageboard in real life one must choose their battles very carefully. The ammo is all on the wife's side. We have a ton of PC games, Gamecube games, DS games, Nintendo 64 games and the boys are signed up online for World of Warcraft. Heck even my PDA is loaded with games.
So the "We really need this new console because the new technology is cool is a tough sell LOL". BUT time and patience are on my side. I just need a reduction in price to seal the deal.

If you already play games, the dork ship has sailed. And if she's still into you despite of that, the arm waving won't change a thing.
Consoles are nice because they are genreally plug and play, reliable, and easy to use. Well, except for the PS3.

Wow, you profit more off Wii's than PS3s...my friend only made like $50 on his PS3 sale last week.
Wii's are still going for about 2x-3x retail.

Many people play a game on the PC, but usually it's only one (ahem... World of Warcraft). I read somewhere (can't source it atm) that PC Game sales have slumped since all the big MMO's came out. So, while people are spending large amounts of time gaming on a PC, they arn't buying many new games.
The Wii is fun. That's it. It's for people who want to loosen up and play fun multiplayer games with a group of friends. Think of it as the new form of Charades or Pictionary.
PS3/XBox360 are just the continuation of the standard console experience, except prettier.
My opinion is that the PS2 killed the console by forcing a set number of genre's that are merely copied ad nauseum (GTA clones, Gran Turismo & Clones, Call of Duty & Clones, Final Fantasy and clones....). You buy a new game, it's the same one you played last month, but slightly different. I got sick of spending 60$ on crap like that.
So, for solo gaming, I'm a PC guy all the way (it's just better). But for partys, the Wii takes the cake. It's just far too much fun to loosen up and goof off.
Besides, who plays games to look cool?

7. Thirty-five percent of American parents say they play computer and video games. Further, 80 percent of gamer parents say they play video games with their kids. Sixty-six percent feel that playing games has brought their families closer together.
8. Thirty-eight percent of all game players are women. In fact, women over the age of 18 represent a significantly greater portion of the game-playing population (30%) than boys age 17 or younger (23%).

This set of statistics takes a very liberal view of who and what a gamer is. Your grandmother playing solitare on the Microsoft Gaming Zone counts to them. This is hardly the target market for the Sony Playstation3 or the XBox360.
Context matters...

And you will further likely see added benefit in being able to include more people from your life into your video gaming experience then your drinking buddy from college and some random co-worker...
There is nothing inheriently immature about the base of PS3 or XBOX games, but that does not mean by extension that they represent a mature allocation of priorities and perspectives either...

I see your point. That said, I dont think you realize the joy in a couple good college drinking buddies, a whole lot of beer, and setting up a Madden tournament.
