The Wedge Friday nights on Much Music has the most interesting videos. You may not like the music, but the videos are usually very artistic.

One of my favorite videos is Bast*** s of the Young by the Replacements. It's more an anti-video - the entire video is just the song being played from a speaker!

Old Man Down the Road, John Fogerty. I can't believe Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel hasn't been mentioned. Another video I always liked back in the day was "Wake Up Dead" by Megadeth as well. Motorhead's "Killed by Death" was good too.

Of course one of the all-time best for good reason is AHA's "Take on Me"
|
I came in this thread expecting "Take on Me" to be one of the first videos posted. I'm surprised it took as long as it did for someone to mention it.
And maybe I just missed it, but did nobody post "Right Now" by Van Halen?

One of the other all-time great vids from the 80s, and my all-time favourite song btw is Talk Talk's "It's My Life".

Thriller
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ww284SObTV0
This is the greatest video made to this day I think. I look at what the video did. This music video literally transcended all music videos.
Nobody ever put that much money into them until Jackson made this one. Nobody ever thought about making a "short film" music video.
Another thing that goes unnoticed is the style of it. I remember watching a documentary about it. Michael Jackson started the "Military style dance." I never seen music videos where you would have the lead singer dance and have a group copying him right behind. So many videos started doing this after up until today.
He said in an interview that he was telling Janet Jackson this was the way to go and she called him back to ask if she could use this style in Rythem nation, so I guess she technically came out with it first?
The guy is a weirdo, but he is a musical genious. I don't think I'll ever watch a music video again that made as much of an impact than Michael Jacksons Thriller

I can't access youtube from work, but you guys can look these up:
Radiohead - Karma Police
Radiohead - No Suprises
Radiohead - Street Spirit
Radiohead - Paranoid Android
UNKLE (feat. Thom Yorke of Radiohead) - Rabbit in Your Headlights
Obviously I'm a fan of Radiohead..but they seriously seem to have some of the best videos out there. Some other good ones:
The Verve - Bittersweet Symphany
Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit (still an awesome video)
Pearl Jam - Do the Evolution (by Todd McFarlane)
Also, check out some cool vidoes by iclandic groups, Sigur Ros, and Bjork.
And thanks to Muchmusic and MTV for making the art of the music video irrelevent in modern music.
