you want to eat 5-6 smaller meals than binging on the 2-3 meals per day you eat..i was workin on a masters in Nutrition and thats the most important piece of advice i can give you. PORTION CONTROL is easier to achieve when you eat smaller meals more frequently!

watch your sugar intake..juice has TONS of sugar..orange, apple, whatever fruit you choose, its sugar. it might be natural, but its all carbs, which is bad for your teeth, bad for your weight control. Diet Soda is better healthwise than juice (unless freshly squeezed juice) believe it or not...in terms of sugar. However, juice has vitamins obviously, but its better to eat the fruit than drink the juice. (Why does that sound dirty somehow..hehe)

I agree. Eating the actual fruit, rather than drinking the juice is better b/c you are getting the fiber in the fruit which is obviously going to fill you up and give you the benefits of fiber in your diet. Diet pop is better than regular for sure but it is still high in soduim and so if you are trying to watch your sodium intake, then even diet pop may not be the best thing, unless it's every once in awhile.

Most brands of Diet Pop are high in sodium but there are a few brands with little to no sodium in them. I drink diet pop exclusively when it comes to pop. Diet Rite is my brand of choice because it has no sodium and is sweetened with Sucralose instead of the usual evil aspertame.

Oh I did not know that. I'm going to have to try that brand.

I don't agree with it...I would rather just stay away from pastries...and junk food.
The Atkins diet is silly and wrong. Carbs are not bad. Carbs are good. They are what give you the energy you use in exercising. It's when you eats tons of carbs and sit around on your ass that the excess carbs are transferred into fat, which is bad.

The Atkins diet is not silly nor wrong. It has been used successfully for decades for weight loss in extremely/morbidly obese patients. The problem began when normal and slightly fat people started using it.

Agreed.

But for someone who is trying to cut off 60 lbs...eating too many carbs...carbs from pastries...such things...which people call the bad carbs...very quickly transfers into fat.

My theory is simple. Quit eating junk food...quit drinking pop, juice, soda, beer...any alcohol except wine....and stay away from white bread...basically your pastries. The pounds can't fall off fast enough.

Of course...exercise does wonders as well.

The solution is not to cut out carbs. It's to reduce them. Try and find a credible nutritionist who still goes for it...oh wait that's right...you don't trust nutritionists.

An article on your brilliant Dr. Atkins:

http://www.cnn.com/2004/HEALTH/02/10/atkins.widow.ap/

"Dr. Robert Atkins, whose popular diet stresses protein-rich meat and cheese over carbohydrates, weighed 258 pounds at his death and had a history of heart disease, a newspaper reported Tuesday."
