JOY! (And they seem to have a problem with road rage.)
I've lived in Edmonton for the last 19 years and have never once seen any of the things you say. You must have lived in a real slum area if you saw all of that. Unfortunately every city has their slum areas, even Calgary.
As for the road rage issue, yeah there are people here with that problem but I have found it to be worse in Calgary, especially on the Deerfoot - yikes! I guess that's Alberta drivers for ya!

How long have you been there? More than a month? Then you should know if you like the neighborhood or not. Don't move because some people from Calgary say it is a slum or a bad place to live.

Good point, the whole place is a slum to me and I've never lived there. I can say that about 10-15% of the time I visit Edmonton I get a trip to the hospital and 68 stitches from a beer bottle upside the head.

Can you explain this?

How many times have you been hit in the side of the head with a beer bottle?

Just once but I've only been to Edmonton about 7 or 8 times.

The Safeway at Bonnie Doon mall or the one nearer to the University, on 109 street and 82 ave? My brother lives right by Bonnie Doon and he likes it over there and finds it really quiet - a lot of older people live in that area.
Whyte Ave area is not the best place to live, especially evenings during the weekends but I don't think it is a total 'slum' area. Go closer to downtown for that and of course the area near Rexall Place ... as an Edmontonian I am even ashamed of that area

jeez, edmonton's not paradise and compared to calgary it's a little rough, but does no one remember electric avenue, with stabbings every weekend?

man, compared even to british columbia edmonton is an ivory tower.

take a stroll through prince george's residential areas by the river.

check out east van, hastings...

alberta is, as far as street violence / hoods / danger areas, a JOKE.

Very true but according to quite a few posters here on CP, Edmonton might as well be Compton or Queens

no kidding.

i had half a day to kill in los angeles this june and took a daytime tour through south central, mostly for bragging rights.

to say nothing of the seasoned travelers on this site that have been in SERIOUS spots!

if edmonton is that bad folks, really, then just stay out of it.

better order your groceries on line and work from the home, i don't like the looks of that guy in your parking lot...

The real good area is 118 ave of course, and right by the cop shop. 97 st. - > 93 st. between 100 and around 106 ave. real fun people in that area. The hotel across the street from the cop shop is insane. I guess it is alot like the Cecil, which I have been in and lived to tell about it.

Another murder last night in Calgary. Way safer than Edmonton.

I was working last night, and there were cops EVERYWHERE over a certain part of Edmonton. If I had to guess, something major happened that the news hasn't released yet. Murder, home invasion, stabbing...something.

But the bottom line, is that yes, Edmonton seems to have more violent crime than Calgary. More murders obviously. But that doesn't mean Calgary is exempt from these acts. They just might not happen as much. Big cities have big problems, and I hardly think a murder total reflects on the general population of any city.

Apperently 4 stabbings on Saturday night in Edmonton. 2 of them were on Whyte Ave, just a block off those events I named above.

Stabbings are getting out of control these days, in ALL major cities, not just edmonton. There's lots in Calgary that don't make the news. It's almost a daily occurance.

Either 2 or 3 of those stabbings were fatal
