Another good point. At 0 degrees my summer tires are near useless and I can spin all the way through first and second at half throttle. I'm guessing stopping distances wouldn't be too good either with frozen hockey pucks for tires.

Hi way 1 West was relatively OK yesterday, although I did hit a pretty heavy snowfall in the Golden area.

Roads were junk in the city though....strange how I can make it event free on a 3 hr drive on the Trans Canada, then as soon as I hit the city limits almost slide across a major intersection, due in large part to the knob who decided to cut me off and slam on his brakes, forcing a triple lane change by yours truly. Normally not a problem, but it made things a little hairy considering I was pulling a sled trailer with $20k worth of machinery on it.

I'm still wondering why people continue to cut me off when I'm pulling a loaded trailer. Do you not realize how hard it is to stop, and that's the reason I'm making a gap? Idiots.

Just got home and my driveway is a solid sheet of ice. And i have no fricken salt to put on it.

I went to see the guy acroos the street as he offered me some of his salt. Well, one step on the sidewalk and i'm on back looking at the sky.

Fark it! I'm staying indoors!

I don't know about you but my time is pretty tight. If I had to swap tires out once a week I'd miss a Flames game that needed to be watched.

Edit: I guess I'm not up with snow tire technology. I remember the days when running a snow tire on regular pavement would shorten its lifespan considerably.

I can swap mine out in about a half hour. It helps that I can jack an entire side of the car up at once.

And there is not really such a thing as a 'snow tire' anymore. The term these days is 'winter tire', to also reflect their usefulness on cold (but dry) pavement. Like Hulk says, performance summer tires turn into the equivalent of shopping cart trolly wheels when it gets below freezing.

Does anyone else hate fu**ing SUV's that think they are invincible in bad weather? Some idiot in an explorer skidded right through the intersection at 14th street Sw at the Rockeyveiw hospital intersection (forgot the name of that road), and almost took out three people crossing the street. Just brutal.

A few years back the local news went around to various body shops to see what type of vehicles were being fixed that winter. Each place said SUV's were the #1 vehicles being fixed.

I guess one feels invincible if one has a 4x4 and thinks they have the ability to stop on a dime. And when it results in an accident it's the other guy that ends up with the most damage and injuries.
