It might be a shootout demo but it still gives people a taste of how the new stick handling feature will work, how goalies react to shots more true to life and how the puck no longer is a magnet to them, and how the puck's physics are more realistic. It's getting alot of 2K fans who werent impressed with the 2K7 demo to switch over to EA this year so it cant be that bad.

Like Kryzsky I thought the 2K7 was alright but I also thought it didnt live up to the hype that alot of 2K fans put on the series. It just didnt feel as fun as the 2007 demo was. And when it comes to video games having fun is all that matters.

The NHL 2K7 demo showed it's improved camera angle, graphics, new skating engine, and improved overall gameplay.

The NHL 07 demo showed graphics and a control scheme that may or may not work well in the actual game.
I dunno man..from everything I read, including the IGN review, the controls in NHL07 are amazing and a huge innovation for hockey gaming.

From what I've seen of 2k7, it looks almost exactly like the game I've played since 2k4. The 2k series has been better than EA's for the past few seasons, but I'm way more intrigued by EA this time around.

Both games look stellar IMO. I love NHL 07's controls and love how smooth 2k7 is this year.

Buyin' both.

I have felt for a long time that EA Sports did a very "arcade-like" version of the NHL with each of its games. I feel that it kind of demeans hockey. I like the 2K series because it seems a lot more like hockey to me, seems more realistic.

I would have had a better opinion of the NHL07 controls if I could have used them for something other than breakaway/shootout. I want to know how well it works for hitting and defending and backchecking, etc.

Yah so did I but you're pre-judging EA's version based on prior years. A one-timer fest is not what I would call a "realistic" version of hockey and that's what seems to be plaquing 2k7's version this year.

NHL 07 gets 8.0/10 on PC, PS2, XBOX and 8.7/10 on XBOX 360 from IGN.

That's fine that you like the 2K series but like I said before just because the other EA Hockey games have been "arcade-like" to you doesnt mean NHL 07 will be. Despite what you might think they dont have exactly the same people who worked on the game 4-5 years ago. The producer they had that wanted to add alot of 'arcade-like' features is no longer with the team and the new guy seems to be devoted to making it more authentic. While we didnt see how the CPU defense and your teammates react in the demo we did see other things that made it more 'sim-like' and that people have been asking them to put in for years.

I see your point. I guess I was just really disappointed that they seemed to dodge a bit when it came to giving people a chance to experience their game before purchase.

Honestly, I hope NHL 07 is a great game because I would love to have two NHL games on my shelf this winter. NHL 2K7 is an automatic purchase for me, I LOVED the demo and the series has my loyalty currently.

I think the thing is, the controls are so new and different that if you threw people straight into a game experience they would say "This sucks, its too hard, I can never complete a pass or score" and put down their controller. This way, people can dick around with just one aspect of the game and pick it up and start to score some goals, and get hooked. I think the way they did it will get them more interest.

Arcade-like means hits that are over-emphasized. Goaltenders that are bone-headed or are also over-emphasized in their movements. Defensive AI that is non-existent. Way too much scoring. Lots of pretty lights and graphics but no substance. Ability to do things that no human being will ever be able to do with a puck. Some of the dekes the EA sports series in the past have been just ridiculous.

I still think you need a level of arcade-like play in the game to sell the game to people who may rent it. 2k7 is nice for pure sim fans but for the casual fans, it just doesn't cut it.

EA will always have a overall higher fun factor for the pick up and play gamers. It sells.

That's why I buy both games every year, they balance each other quite nicely.

If NHL 07 holds up to scrutiny I will be buying both as well this year.
