I'll second that one. That one almost made me buy a new couch.

That's easy...The one and only original Texas Chainsaw Massacre..I avoided this movie for years until I got the nerve one night to rent it at 2:00am...and trust me..I didn't sleep well for the next few nights..and easily the 2nd scariest was Dawn of the Dead..holy crap that was a little much when you see it at 10 years old..lol

I'd have to say Eraserhead.
I was about 9 when I "experienced" that movie, and it rattled me for a while. I won it on DVD now though.
Children of the Corn freaked me out too when I was a kid. Nothing scares me now though. House of a 1000 Corpses was a little scary I guess.

When I was a kid I saw a Nostradamus sp? special narrated by Orson Welles that caused many a nightmare, I think it was on HBO. That and Exorcist 3 with the old people walking like spiders was damn creepy.

["Event Horizon" - this movie caused me sleep loss, not even exactly sure why. they used restraint in what they showed, maybe that's why[/quote]
Same here, I thought the movie wasn't that great but it scared the living hell outta me.
I still love "The Blair Witch Project", the hype around it the way it was marketed just made it that much more scary. I've watched it over ten times and every time you see the guy facing the corner at the end, it still sends shivers down my spine. I went and saw in theater by my self in a packed theater, and the girl beside me (who I didn't know) kept grabing my arm when it was scary, and when she did that I jumped cause I wasn't expecting anyone to touch me LOL. When it was over I heard one guy turn to his friend and say "that wasn't f***ing real right! It better not be real!!!" I think that movie did it for me cause it let your mind do all the work.

Subtle things like that create the fear, there isnt much fear in hack em whack em moving like Freddie or Jason. Thats just eye candy stuff, it doesnt get into the brain. At least for me.

The squirrel people were a little unsettling.

All I remember with Blair Witch was the constant abuse of the English language.

"The Exorcist" for the longest time but the reigning champ is "The Ring". When that chick crawls out of the TV and does the herky jerky across the room, I'm sure my hair was standing straight up. I'm getting the heebie-jeebies just thinking about it right now.

OT: Since we we are talking about scary things, the dude that hosted Unsolved Mysteries will forever be the scariest man on Earth to me. His voice and his eyes just gave me the creeps.
EDIT: This guy.

Robert Stack, host of Unsolved Mysteries.
http://www.unsolved.com/home.html
It was a popular show back inthe early 90's and probably the late 80's.

The Blair Witch Project scared the carp out of me! That last scene with whoever it was standing up, facing the wall made me shiver, especially after remembering the "interview's" at the beginning.

The Care Bears Movie
Tenderheart just freaks me out!
Seriously though, my little brother had to sit in the lobby of the theatre with mom about halfway through "Earnest Scared Stupid" he was only little and the monsters scared him to the point of tears

Yep me too, I was 'fortunate' enough to have no idea that it wasn't a documentary on opening night. In fact it was another co-op student that showed me the web site the afternoon of the movie. They did a pretty amazing job of making the timelines and facts appear authentic.
I've always been a big fan of stories based on real events so I was pumped to go. When we watched the movie that evening, well, I don't think I've ever been so horrified in my life. In my mind I had no trouble picturing myself in those exact circumstances.
For a whole week (and yes I knew by that point the film wasn't based on real events) I still saw that last scene in my head every time I tried to fall asleep.

Another vote for the Ring. Gave me nightmares and woke me up in the middle of the night repeatedly for weeks after watching it... I would see that creepy girl in shadows everywhere. Haven't the courage to watch The Ring 2 yet.

I forgot about the original Hellraiser movie. One of the best horror movies made IMO.
The 1st sequel was alright too, but it was playing too much on the 1980s monster movie fad. After that, they just got worse. I think Clive Barker actually stopped writing the later ones too.

Someone mentioned how they were scared by clowns but not the ones from outer space. . . well I was petrified of the Killer Klowns from Outerspace when that movie came out. There was one scene where one of the clowns punched through some guy's back and used him as a puppet. Scared the crap out of me.
As for the Blair Witch the only scene that really bothered me was when they were in the tent and something started pushing the tent around. I've had that happen to me (by some of my jackass friends) while I was fast asleep.
