Claeren.
I'm gonna go home to check the labels on my BR stuff...I can't recall where its actually made. I agree with you that it can be overly priced, but some of their clothes are indeed very nice, both in style and quality, in my eyes anyways. I can only judge from personal experience but most of the Banana Republic stuff I've bought (most of which was reasonably priced and bought on sale) i'm very happy with, and are among the best looking and long lasting parts of my wardrobe. But I will actually take up your challenge. I need some new clothes, so I will go look at this JOE stuff at superstore, and then compare it to similar stuff at Banana Republic and buy accordingly. I have a really hard time believing JOE is right there with BR in terms of quality or style, but if it is, I'll start buying that instead.

I'm gonna defend BR here too. I think Claeren's issues seem more personal then actually about their clothes.
Everything BR I have or have had has been of great quality and lasted a long time. They may be overpriced, but they're hardly Superstore quality clothes

Three BR shirts I grabbed off my floor (bachelor) were from Turkey, Malaysia, and Hong Kong. Hong Kong Textiles are excellent - not sure about Turkey or Malaysia, but I've rarely see Made in China labels on BR items. Wool Dress pants I've gotten from them have been great, worn daily.

I buy BR on sale only and typically pay about 60-90 a shirt. I used to worry about shirt longevity until I realized that 5 year old dress shirt and ties - looked like 5 year old shirts and ties. I wouldn't consider myself a slave to fashion, but taking a bit of pride in your appearance pays off if you have to interact with a lot of people.
