Well, obviously I am a bit biased but I think that it went great. We had just over 100 people (105 - 110 or so), and it was nice.

We really enjoyed it. But now I know why everyone we talked to before said if they had to do their wedding over again, they would make it quite smaller. It is a lot of work, but well worth it.

That was the advice we took. We are having about 35 people. Family and our closest friends. Its in the back yard of an in laws summer home right on the water in the okanagan with dinner at a small restaurant.

I found planning even this small of a wedding stressful (not overly) but there was those annoying things and I would still say to anyone if they can get away with it...ELOPE...

That said.. I am still really looking forward to it!!!

That's funny, I'm doing the reverse ... going from Montreal to Ottawa. But not for a bachelor's day party, just to take in the festivities in Ottawa. I went last year and it was pretty fun.

Twenty-one years ago, we had a small wedding and reception as well . . . . . that was deliberate so we could gather most of our nickels together for a three week honeymoon in Europe immediately after.

Spend the money on yourselves instead of 200 of your closest friends. . . . . you'll probably be happier about it in the end.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING FOR THE CANADA DAY WEEKEND?

Probably sitting in the field watching the tall grass wave in the wind with a cold beer and a good friend . . . .

. . . . . or maybe a little more ridge walking like last weekend . . . .

Is that Nihahi ridge I spy with my little eye? I'm not doing anything too spectacular for the long weekend. Some things are starting to work pretty well for me in the lab so I might just keep plugging away. That or go out to the mountains. Probably the mountains.

No.

Directions to the ridge pictured would be . . . . south of Longview, turn into Kananaskis country and drive past Indian Graves in the Whaleback, driving up, up, up to the highest point you can find. Get out and start climbing the ridge to the south. There's not much of a trail. The little lake in the picture is Bear Lake. You can walk a few undulating miles on that ridge.

Ummm... this patriotic Canadian doesn't approve of the National Capital Commission spending millions of taxpayer dollars on a party that can only be enjoyed by

a) those who happen to live in Ottawa (and are likely suckling off the government teat anyhow), or
b) those who can afford to take a vacation (for many people, across 3 time zones)

(and believe me...the NCC is not a self-funding operation...it does suck a lot of taxpayer dollars!)

There's your "CANADA DAY DOWNER" over and done with!

Cube... Lay off a little. It's something that most countries do. Throw a party in the capital on its birthday.
Complaining about it is like getting ticked about your parents for buying your sister a wedding anniversary gift every year. Just because it doesn't do you any good, and you don't qualify to score the same kind of thing, doesn't mean that she shouldn't get the gift.

OK, that was a terrible analogy. But really, Ottawa blows money in ways that you and I haven't even heard of. This is a celebration. A worthy celebration.

Wow. I really need to preview my posts before hitting send. Barely decipherable...

Oh, my Canada day will be spent at the beach in Nettuno. I will probably recite O Canada at some point during the day. And hopefully I will end up at the Irish pub with a bunch of canadians in the evening.

I was going to go camping, but apparently unless you made reservations somewhere in January ( ) instead of shovelling snow, you are not going anywhere. Sad state of affairs...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you can hike into/camp anywhere in K-country you want. I used to do it all the time on horsback when I was a kid.

Plus you won't have rednecks like 4X4 getting drunk and driving over your tent at 3AM

True. Sorry, I should have specified RV camping as opposed to camping-camping.

You think the what the NCC puts on is what makes Canada Day in Ottawa great? Except for the fireworks, what the NCC puts on is crap. What do you expect from an organization that's run by Frenchies? They put on a bunch of lame Canadian acts that are either from Quebec, or might have had some brief success 20 years ago because of Canadian content regulations. Like a Tom Cochrane, Kim Mitchell or Colin James as a headliner.

The best part of Canada Day in Ottawa is the party in the Byward Market and the NCC has little to do with that.

EH! That IS where I camp. In the backwoods, where it's free and there's firewood galore. Just that you need a 4x4 to get to 4x4's various spots.

AND, there is nothing wrong with 3AM 4x4ing.

One more thing... You needn't worry about me driving over your tent in the middle of the night. My reign of terror in K-country is on hiatus. But I'm sure the rest of my freaky 4x4 friends will slam an extra beer and snap an extra U-joint in my abscence. Watch out for them.
