It was never actually meant to go any further than a 30-60 minute promo video for St. Anger like the one they did on the black album. But Hetfield going to rehab turned it into a documentary movie. They wanted to thank the fans who stuck with them through all those months by letting them see what they really went through both in the good times and the bad times. Some people might think it made them look bad and in parts it did but I think what ended up happening and how Hetfield's and Lars' attitudes changed in order to keep the band and their friendship going made up for the scenes they looked like *******s.

As far as Mustaine he did gain some of my respect for meeting with Lars to try and bury the hatchet instead of whining about being kicked out but he lost all that a few months later when he went on another whinefest about he looked bad in it and whined again about being kicked out. If he didnt want people to see that he actually has feelings instead of how people see him on stage he should have never agreed to be taped.

Inferno, no need to get all defensive and post paragraph upon paragraph. Not everyone will agree with you, no worries.

That movie was the final nail in the coffin, that band is dead to me now.

If there's something I dont agree with I'll state it. On any subject. Nobody's forcing you to read it.

well, i love Metallica, some songs more than others, but damn, i aint no snob, metallica rocks, no matter what song. is st anger as good as master? to most people no, but the essence of Metallica lives in it and thats good enough for me.

i have the demo tape "No Life to Leather" with Mustaine doing Four Horseman. Damn, I need to dig it up, havent listened for a long time!

If they say something that I dont agree with and that I think they're misinformed about I'll address it. Simple as that. That's what a message board is for.

I was really hoping that this thread wouldnt be hijacked by Metallica haters and people who still do like them or are neutral would be able to discuss the new song but of course that wasnt the case. I try and show some respect for people who like bands I dont such as SOAD and let them discuss their new album or song in peace and it would have been nice if it would have been the case for this thread. But I guess Metallica is such an easy target that some people cant resist.

I could go along with Hammett being an original member if it wasn't for the fact all he was doing was performing the music that Mustaine essentially wrote. Hammett didn't really contribute until the second album and even then Mustaine still had equal songwriting credit.

And if you believe Mustaine some of what is on Master of Puppets is also stuff he wrote (who knows...I wouldn't doubt it as songs often take years to evolve until they are ready to be debuted).

Mustaine is a bigger reason than hammett that those first two albums are considered classics. Not that Hammett isn't a great guitarist and a main contributor to the later success of Metallics he is...not as technically proficient as Mustaine (pre-Mustaine nerve injury), but seems to have more "soul" if that make sense. But original member? Not in my mind, he was basically a studio musician on that first album nothing more.

Mustaine vs Lars. It's really quite funny because both have admitted they talk on a pretty regular basis. They make up, get ****ed at each other, make up, get ****ed again etc etc etc. It's always been that way and probably always will. Both sides have done their fair share of whining.

Yep, and too many people worry about a band's image rather than their music. I really could give a **** how a band's image is perceived. If I like their music then I like them.

The Napster thing wasen't too bad, it was the Lip Gloss, the small Garage band, those lawsuits did it in for me.

Why? Those are minor compared to the Napster case. It's not like they went after either looking for a ****load of money. They asked both to change their names so that there would be no confusion with them and Metallica. It sounds silly in both cases but could very well happen especially if that band started doing gigs. You would get alot of ****ed off people thinking they were going to see the real Metallica when they're not.
