Like others have said, there's good and bad in every genre of music. But put a gun to my head I'd have to say crap. Still it's better than the Dixie Chicks in the other thread! Bleh!

I don't like rap at all, but that doesn't mean it has no merit. I just don't like it.

Rap: A bunch of people who have the same writing capabilities as Dr.Suess except they swear more.

I don't think ANY rap-artist has been revolutionary. They all do the same thing. Take a popular song, remove the lyrics and then write a nursery rhyme to replace them. There are very few rappers where I will stop to listen. About the only one is maybe Ludacris and then sometimes Eminem. I will never understand how people call Tupac 'revolutionary' when he more than likely faked his death for profit. Yeah bull-**** you had this much stuff just recorded and sitting around.

It's Seuss.

Any true artist (of any discipline) would be honored to even be mentioned in the same sentence as Dr. Seuss.

You're really good at rhyming and only popular with little kids?

Am I? No.

Dr. Seuss was a brilliant writer and illustrator. There is a little more to it than "good at rhyming".

Saying "rappers have no more talent than Dr. Seuss" is like saying "country singers have no more talent than William Faulkner". It's a compliment, but you don't even know it.

I like all music exept Heavy Metal. That doesnt mean the music is a complete pile of donkey dunk and has no merit. It is all in the hear of the beholder and no other person can claim that any music is useless.

I like rap music, it's not my favorite but I don't have a problem with it.

It's like all styles you have crap bands and songs that I could careless for, but there are groups or artists that have contributed some pretty decent tunes.

I still think House of Pain was the best, loved their sound

There is a some music I like from every genre, but other genres I just like a lot more of. Personally, Rap (along with Country, Reggae, and others) is one where I only like a smal portion of what is out there, and even that would be some of the 'popular crap' that Rap followers would probably disdain.

i don't understand how people can say this. metal is the most diverse genre in my opinion and different sub-genres of metal can borrow very heavily on other, more mainstream genres. out of all the bands that fall under the metal classification, there is at least one that anyone can find entertaining. just because you haven't bothered to explore it at all doesn't mean there's nothing there that you would like. what type of music do you regularly listen to?

I don't really listen to hip-hop myself or "rap" but the good stuff i have heard has unique artists mixing beats and samples in a way that requires alot of talent. Also calling the lyrics dumb is just that - it and the contemporary folk scene are by far the most socially conscious genres in North American music. There's alot of shallow conformist bull**** just like with country, rock, punk, metal, etc. etc. and I think that is what most people think of when they think of genres they don't understand - one thing I've learned in reviewing lots of music week by week is that there are talented artists in pretty much every type if you really listen.

Not a big fan of the rap at all, especially the lyrics.
Ludacris still comes up with some gems though. Say what you want but he's pretty witty when it comes to writing, and the songs are catchy to boot.
Gym Class Heroes are a nice mix of rock/hip hop, it's a shame bands like that get no exposure, and 50 cent goes around talking about candy shops and lollipops.

I like it, well most of it, you can't beat some of the stuff that came out in the 90's. Biz Markee, Ton Loc, Young MC, I love that crap.

Rap is like any other genure, for the good artists, there's probably 2-3 times more bad ones.

Do I like rap? Yes... do I like all rap? Not even close. I like some of the earlier 80's stuff, when they were rapping about depression, oppression, and how life was in the ghetto's of LA. Now the mainstream rap is about depression, oppression, and how life is in the upperclass neighbourhoods of Beverly Hills.

I'm not a fan of 50 Cent, The Game, etc. I do like some of Eminem's stuff. However like all music you have to take it for what it is, "Shake That" and "Without Me" are fun, cheesy songs, that aren't supposed to have a real message or to try and change the world, it's simply there to make you dance, laugh, and have fun.

I love what I call "instruction rap" that'd be like "Shake That" by Eminem, or "I Like To Move It, Move It" by Reel-2-Reel. You simply dance how they tell you to dance, you follow the instructions, LOL.

I think people need to understand that some music is about new shapes, sounds and ideas, whereas some music is capturing a moment in time, even if it's a silly, goofy memory. Whenever I hear "S Club Party" I laugh thinking of how we'd goof off in high school KNOWING the song was sooo bad made it great. Remember "The Bad Touch" reminds me of one of my biggest high school crushes because she loved the song, it was just sooo bad it was good.

Rap = Crap, to answer the question

Yes and No

But I think there should be a continuation of the question, if you know it's crap, then why can't you enjoy it?

On that note, time to put some Journey on "She's just a small town girl, livin' in a lonely world....

It's only a compliment if a rapper's goal is to be no better than a children's writer.
