I don't get why people wouldn't want to go to their grad ceremony. You put in all that hard work and time to get your meal ticket, why not celebrate it and cap it off properly? So what if it's a little boring, you owe it to yourself!

Mine is on the 7th. Shouldn't be too bad. I just wish they would hold it earlier, or at least at the end of a month instead of a whole extra month of rent.

There really isn't any reason for me to go. My family won't be there, I don't want to drag my friends to go. I don't really know too many people in this grad. class. And it's just not the type of thing I would really appreciate or enjoy. I don't see the payoff for me to go. I will celebrate it though, just not at the actual ceremony. I plan on doing something that night with my friends so I will be capping it off properly.

Congratulations to all those graduating this year, particularly calfer and Jon who I sorta kinda know and consider as friends.
After I finished High School I just couldn't bare the thought of going to school for 4 or more years again, even though I had the opportunity to do so. I chose a different route and am happy with it, but I do have a great deal of respect for those who do it and do it with success. It takes a lot of discipline so good for you guys!

the undergrad convocation was pretty dull - the ceremony at least - but afterwards, you can hook up with friends, and its actually pretty fun...
Grad school, on the other hand, was a hoot, just because you actually get to sit with actual friends and you get to wear a "technicolor dream coat"...

I was going to go to mine but unfortunately mine wasnt held until November and it just so happened that the week it happened most of Manitoba was hit with terrible weather so me and my parents decided to not risk getting into an accident since we had heard that there were alot of accidents reported because of icy roads.

Well personally, I didn't feel that I put all that much work in or that I had my meal ticket either. I was disappointed that I would miss out on student loans and being able to go out every night to all hours of the morning but as for the day to day aspects of school I didn;t feel liek Iwould be missing anyhting or capping anything off.
So to punctuate it with a boring ceremony seemed silly for me to do anyways.

I'll go with ya!
I love Ottawa in summer. Plus, you'll know it's me, because I will be the guy with the painted "C" on his face waiving the flags and screaming,
"YEEEEAAAHHHHH BABY!"

I'm going for my family. After 6 years and being the first of my family to convocate, I think it's important to all of us. It's a huge accomplishment for me as I had to work full time and go to school to get it done. Sure, I'm gald I'm done, and don't really want to sit there for 3 hours, but I can't wait until I walk across that stage and see my mom smile out at me. Plus, my dad isn't feeling well lately, and I want him to be there for at least one important event in my life. I suppose if I didn't have family coming, I'd likely feel differently.

Hey thanks man, thought I replied already to this, but apparently not. Lots of work goes into university education (even moreso for highschool if you think about it, that takes 13 years, compared to say 4 for a BA).
Convocation or not, be proud of your accomplishments is the main thing
