The Federation of Otto-Matic

"Long live the Gopher!"

UN Category: Inoffensive Centrist Democracy Civil Rights:
Below Average Economy:
Reasonable Political Freedoms:
Excellent Location: ALLIED CP

Regional Influence: Minnow

The Federation of Otto-Matic is a tiny, environmentally stunning nation, renowned for its compulsory military service. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 5 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.
The large government juggles the competing demands of Defence, Religion & Spirituality, and Law & Order. The average income tax rate is 24%, but much higher for the wealthy. A tiny private sector is dominated by the Beef-Based Agriculture industry.
Crime is moderate, and the police force struggles against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Otto-Matic's national animal is the gopher, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the gopher.

Yep, I have somehow managed to outlaw gambling just because I said nine year old kids should not be allowed to. Huh?

On the good side of things, I have the second best health care in the region. Why am I not first?! Health care is the foundation of any good left wing utopia. Oh well. 2/42 is still solid.

One thing wierd about that game, on certain issues it doesn't give you a middle of the road choice. Either you support corporations, or you don't.

You can just dismiss the issue if you dont agree with any of the options... i have done that for 2 of the issues i have been presented because none of the options went with my government's policies.

quick question... what's the big deal with the UN, the advantages/disadvantages of being in it?

I also seem to be stuck at being ranked 15th for everything

WEll you can vote on UN resolutions..... but you have to follow them by law... so you might get stuck doing something you dont want your country to do.

Booya!

Second best health care and best environment in the region. Looks like my left wing utopia is doing pretty well.

ok so the decisions I've made up to this point has made for an interesting summary of my nation

Quote:
Animal Liberationists are regularly jailed, and extreme political groups are outlawed. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare.
How is it that "Animal Liberationists are regularly jailed," when "crime is totally unknown"? Doesn't seem to add up to me

Anyone still doing this?

The Republic of Bobblenoggin is a huge, socially progressive nation, renowned for its complete lack of prisons. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 212 million enjoy extensive civil freedoms, particularly in social issues, while business tends to be more regulated.

The government -- a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, liberal morass -- devotes most of its attentions to Education, with areas such as Religion & Spirituality and Law & Order receiving almost no funds by comparison. The average income tax rate is 42%, but much higher for the wealthy. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Information Technology, Pizza Delivery, and Trout Farming industries.

Roads are often attended by round-the-clock construction crews, elevator music has been replaced by thrash metal played at maximum volume, bizarre-looking creatures called 'springdogs' dominate wildlife preserves, and mobile phone masts are being erected all over the country. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is pervasive, probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons. Bobblenoggin's national animal is the spring, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the toupee.

I still do it, but some of the issues are so out in left field I find myself clicking "Dismiss" a lot ... some of them (by the changes it makes to your dossier) seem to have no "good" choice ... my saying that people should not be able to duel means that the police arrest people for the most trivial offenses ... go figure.

Yeah, that's how I ended up with the construction crews around the clock.
