Sugar Sugar by the Archies?!?
what a load of crap.
The #1 song before that was by the Stones, and the #1 after was by the Temptations, and I was born when crapola reigned supreme...

Ditto.
You know what's funny? I've always, really liked that song. And I am not an Eagles fan. Love that Joe Walsh guitar solo at the end, that 'whoop' sound. And the idea of losing your soul to a desert hotel.

The number one song the YEAR I was born was "Get Down Tonight" by KC and the Sunshine Band. But the week I was born the chart-topper was Black Water by the Doobie Brothers.
Do I get to claim the first one?

That's wierd, I can't imagine people not having heard Arthur's theme. It's a soundtrack and on the radio all the time throughout the 80s and 90s. Granted, it's not that memorable but it's like the definition of 1980 sound.
