I know you asked Crazy Flamer, but I'll jump in.

Haven't taken 591 yet, so I have nothing to say on that course.

Finance - stay on top of your homework, do the readings, and don't freak yourself out. It's one of those courses where once you just sit down and work at it, you'll find it pretty manageable. The midterm's tough - they throw major curveballs at you on it, so make sure you read the questions VERY carefully. The final and the quizzes are straight forward
Thanks calf.

Finance is by far the most annoying class so far in my career at Haskayne - and we're only a little over a week in. I'm staying on top of the work as much as I can - the 1st quiz on the Time Value of Money is on Monday, so it approaches fast. As for the midterm, I've heard it IS difficult, and you just have to accept the fact that you might not do so well in it.

There's alot of info to take in, but the content isn't super-complex - there's just alot of it. The most taxing part is the complex problems that require multiple formulas and timelines. I think I'm becoming too dependent on my calculator though....

....I'll try not to freak out, but I'm biting my lower lip and clenching my fists already...

BTW calf, what program and year are you in?

I would like to point out that on my Finals here in my 3rd year, I get some questions that ask me to convert from m/s to km/h, L to gal, mols to grams, even one as simple as hours to seconds. Does this make the class I'm taking easy? No.

Oh and since this is the first week or so of your friend taking this math course, it's bound to get more difficult. Come back in a couple months and let us know what she's doing then.

Now.. I'm not sure what you are getting at by saying this: " Yup, just as I predicted, the SAIT student is refuting my claim."
I happen to like the school. If needed to go back there, I'd jump at the chance. But what are you getting at though?
By the way guys, I'm not at the U of C, I'm at Lakehead. Need to clear that up.
So you made this rational conlcusion that college is easier than university based on the one fact that your friend had to convert military time to standard time? Interesting.

I sure did. Show me a junior-level U of C course where the same work is the final answer. You may have had to convert units of measurement, but if you're in your third year of University, I should hope those questions you're answering are not the be-all, end-all answer to question - it's one step involved in many. Now you're the one comparing apples to organes by comparing third year courses to junior-level courses. That's way off base.

Are you saying SAIT is a complete worthless peice of crap and no one should waste their time there, and us SAIT students are wrong in trying to change your opinion?

No and Yes.

NO - I never said SAIT was a piece of crap. I'm saying University is harder. You are maliciously twisting my words around to benefit of your arguement, and thus are putting words in my mouth both you and I know are not true.

YES - SAIT students, or any student, or any PERSON for that matter, are wrong in telling me to change my opinion. I've always thought Uni was harder, and that's because of the different styles of teaching, and the more theoretical approach. You can make your own conclusions - I've made mine. Uni is harder. You've done nothing to make me think otherwise, so, let me say it again, you are wrong in trying to get me to change my opinion.

Ya know, I forgot why we are arguing. We both agree that University is harder.....

And yes, those conversion questions on my tests ARE the final answers. But they are a small part of the total marks. I know I can't compare my 3rd year to 1st year at SAIT, I was just showing how silly it is saying a school is easier because of a few questions.

In that sense, I agree - it is silly.

But an individual statistic can be quite telling of a more marco-level analysis. To compare SAIT and Univeristy at all is quite difficult given the nature of their programs, but there are those areas of study that both institutions offer to teach. Therefore, if any comparison is to be made, then it must be in like-minded classes (or programs) that both SAIT and the Uni have to offer. In this case, mathematics appears to be more difficult in the University programs, because the aforementioned difficulty of homework that my co-worker presented to me is already assumed knowledge when entering junior-level courses at the Uni. Even she thought it was ridiculously easy, and she hadn't taken math since High School a couple years ago.

Mathematics is but one area of study, so it's not exactly a wise conclusion to make that SAIT is easier in all aspects. I just happen to think that the theoretical approach is much more difficult than practical studies. To each his own.
