She switched countries so she could skate with her partner, as you can't have a mixed nationality couple in the olympics. A little different than just switching because you'd rather compete for another country.

True. I'm not sure of the exact reason they chose to compete for the US, but I do believe that when they started skating together, the dance scene in Canada was quite crowded. Their best chance for support & exposure was with the US.

For the ladies, I'll name Tanith's boyfriend, Fedor Andreev, as Beautiful Olympic Athlete by association Tanith is gorgeous though (but waaaay too skinny)
