That's the norm in Italy. In fact, it's expected. People deliberately leave enough space between vehicles for the scooters and motorcycles can get to the front.
Funny when traffic takes off. Looks like a biker gang on scooters and wearing suits.

Related to the other half of your post, what ****es me off are people that drive slowly, then gun it when someone tries to pass. Everyone thinks that they are a judge and jury these days.
I certainly agree that your time is as valuable as mine. And I further this thought with the notion that if I'm in no hurry, why shouldn't I let you pass?

Who decides what spped is safe? 70kph on 14th street is ######ed. Maybe it's the lowest common denominator idea. Old ladies can't go much faster without getting flustered, so we'd better make it 70.

Well, I'm perfectly capable of going 90, and you (******* in hte BMW on my buddy's wedding day back in November) are not a traffic cop. Driving right beside another car to keep me behind you is just assholishness.
Amplified by the fact that you decide to locate your gas pedal as soon as 14th becomes 3 lanes... ****ing *******s in Calgary.

How about this? Mind your own goddamn business, people. If I am going faster than you, let me pass. What the hell is hte difference to you? It doesn't affect you. When you are going slower than me and won't let me pass, it's affecting me.

Move the hell over and mind your own business.

(I'm saying that to the city of calgary, not to you, bobblehead)

^^^LOL, you got on a roll...

And that reminded me that I get annoyed when I try to change lanes, and as soon as my blinker goes on the person behind decides to close the gap.

This is why you should only start the blinker when you're already moving towards the next lane

People who wear their cellphones and keys on the outside of their pants.

There's more, I went on a rant about them yesterday, I...just forgot what they were...o.o...it's odd.

I have never done it nor will I ever do it! I am part of the main stream traffic. I have the same rights and privileges as everyone else on the road. I dont agree with it either.
The only time I ever went to the front of the line was while I was waiting for a ferry in BC. I actually had one of the attendants tell me to pull to the front because they load bikes first. Go figure!

People on internet forums that say "I tend to agree". Just say I agree! As soon as you read that you know the poster is like 15 years old and thinks it sounds smart. I swear, on HF you can't read more than three posts in a row without reading that.

Oh yeah, I always have an urge to trip 'em.

My largest pet peeves are people who don't know how to merge, and people that think that indicators are an option that did not come with their car...

I also made the mistake of getting seats right next to a major traffic asle this year. The worst is, as these people are streaming by, something exciting happens on the ice and they stop to look. (Like during the penalty shot on Friday.)

Another pet peave, people who don't know how to walk along the +15. They either walk 3 or 4 people abreast so nobody can pass, or they won't use the right hand door. They use the one automatic door causing all traffic to stop going the other way because they are too lazy push open a door on their own.

I agree with what people said about the driving. I am a firm believer that you should have to re-take your test once every 5 years. Said test must be in English or French, and include a trip onto Deerfoot.

Haha! I just had one this morning. The traffic lights were out at a main intersection on my into work. People were just going through 5 and 6 at a time all willy-nilly! If the lights are out, its a four way stop people!! Not hard to figure out!!

My other pet peeve is people who take 10 minutes to order something at Tim Hortons. Its coffee and doughnuts people. You should know what you want before you get to the counter!

My pet peeve would be people who don't know how to drive in traffic circles and think they can drive all the way around in the outside lane. Everytime I enter the traffic circle in MacKenzie Towne I see people doing this and cutting people off at every exit as they try to exit.

How on Earth did I forget this ... luckily its not impacted me to this point, beyond me wondering how these people can be so clueless when it comes to basic traffic ideas. Even if you didn't know - there's signage everywhere.

Oh man try WORKING there. We just want to get through the lineup so we can keep everything stocked and cleaned (or hell, sometimes do some well deserved slacking off). Not to mention in drive thru the computers keep track of the average customer time and if the times are too high the bosses get all ****y. Ok... can I tell the guy with 5 sandwich combos all made a certain way to **** off because he has 6 cars behind him that just want their coffee? Ahhhh... so close to done university and I can leave the place behind!

Pantyhose.

As a woman, they are hot, uncomfortable, and always falling down. Why the hell can't they make a pair of pantyhose for women that are the length of their leg? It's not like I'm 19 feet tall!

And what is up with little old ladies who wear knee highs with dresses?

Customers that always ask for a deal. Do you go into Safeway and ask for a better price on mixed veggies? Do you go to Wendy's and ask for a buck fifty off the Big Bacon Classic? Why come into my store and ask for a deal on a new vase or a fancy shade of lipstick? Watch for flyers if it's that big of an issue or wait for it to go on sale. There might not be any left then, you say? Then pay the price that's marked.

And how does lane splitting impact you? You still arrive at your destination just as fast. In fact because somebody is riding a bike they take up less space and are hellping ease congestion. Lane splitting bikes take up even less space. As 4x4 says motorcycle friendly areas encourage lane splitting although I don't do it often because some idiot may try to sandwich me. Heck, they do it often enough when I'm riding quietly in my own lane. Too many frustrated junior high school hall monitors on this forum.

Definately. Working in McKenzie Towne I have to take this everyday, and being cut off is a more often than not occurance. It's ridiculous, whoever decided to put a traffic circle in Calgary is an idiot to begin with, but with all the signs that tell you HOW to drive in a traffic circle, the people going all the way around on the outside are just as stupid.

People who get overly worked up and stressed out after seeing something, or hearing something, that completely doesn't affect them in any way, shape, or form.

example: In the car with a friend, up ahead someone changes lanes, doesn't really cut anyone off but does it at the last minute kind of deal.

Friend: "Holy crap did you see that? I can't believe that ***hole just did that, that's what's wrong with this city *blah blah blah*."

Another is, dun dun dun, (I should explain I've been in a couple accidents as a passenger and get somewhat paranoid in a car, I don't like speeding, I don't like fast corners, quick lane changes, any of that silly crap.) People who speed way too much. Yeah, OK! 10 km/p over, I get it, fine, but I was once in a car with a guy, in a 60 zone, going over 100, me and my friend flipped on him, he then proceeded to tell us that "He doesn't have the money to pay a speeding ticket." Well that's great, you're about to lose your license if you get pulled over you ######, slow down. (Infact, losing his license would probably be a good thing as he's one of the worst drivers I've ever seen.)

BS.

Helping ease congestion? You are going to merge back into traffic as soon as the light changes, so that is going to slow up everyone behind you. It eases traffic for you, but screws everyone behind you. And one bike won't make much difference, but who as soon as it is OK for one bike, it is OK for any and all and then it will have a large impact. And if someone tries to change lanes as the traffic starts to move, you will get smucked because no one is going to be looking for you where you shouldn't be.

There are bicycle lanes, car pool lanes, bus lanes, and perhaps there should be cycle lanes as well. But until there are, if motorcyclists want to be respected on the road then they must respect the rules of the road.

I have to agree with Bobblehead on this one. How does it affect me? When I end up crippling or killing some guy because he wasn't where he was supposed to be; my fault or not that will cause me grief.

Best case in that situation is I end up wasting my time filling out a police report to explain why I schmucked the guy who was riding between the lanes.

One theme I've noticed with all of our Pet Peaves here- they all have something to do with other people using the "It's all about me" mentallity.

In many jurisdictions lane splitting is not only legal but encouraged. I admit Alberta drivers and the City of Calgary's philosophy of idiot proof roads, couldn't handle it.

Foot shufflers! My momma used to cuff me and tell me to pick my feet up. Sometimes I want to do that to them.

When I'm ripping down the No. 2 Highway on my way home from Edmonton and someone going MUCH slower than me pulls out at the last minute to pass someone who is going really slow and then they pass that person really slowly, when I am on a tight deadline. What can I do tho? Most get the "your an idiot" glare.
